Sound SPDIF

I know not specifically a ROOL question but canny see any other active forums.

Is there any podules or Risc PC would hardware with an SPDIF digital out? Or is it a case of buying a I2S to SPDIF unit off eBay and hooking up the i2s from the header you’d use for the wee 16bit upgrade card usually.

Was away to dig out RPC and get it working again and actually use it for some stuff. But seems some absolute plank has dumped it :( totally raging as it was 256mb, 2mb vram, blitz, 10/100, 2 slice, issue 1 mb 16bit, fast pc card, fast strong arm. Bloody gutted :( wee lad is badly autistic and as i look after him full time I am unlikely to find a replacement (never mind close to spec i had) for anywhere near dosh i can afford :(

Acht well may as well duno the few bits i have here… Midi card, castle fast scsi, and other bits and bobs on eBay as gonna be a fat lot of good to me now.

Oh what a shame. For the record, I don’t remember anything with SPDIF, and I had a 16b sampling podule in the Arthur days so I would have paid attention.

Yep… Gutted isn’t the word… Totally livid is close :(

Looked at the diy 16bit info and looks like header gives i2s so would actually be easy enough to hook up a DAC that takes i2s feed or a wee i2s to spdif converter of decent quality and hook your rpc up to a quality digital to analogue converter (well rev 1 with header anyway).

ISTR the Irlam Instruments i16 hat SPDIF input and output.

Would have tried both ir16 and a wee i2s thing i pop together myself and see which is best if rpc hadn’t been dumped.

Popped a wee wanted add on *. Though doubt will find anything cheap enough

Acht well got an RPI 3b off gumtree for £15 so will be playing with risk os later.

Will grab a risc pc later when a good value one comes up as still seems like best route for midi stuff.
