Audio In on the Beagleboard?

Is Audio In on the Beagle Board already useable?

If yes how?

If yes is there any headset recommended which can be used?

"Audio input needs a proper API before the driver can be extended to support it.", and I’ve not found any forum posts indicating this is out of date.

Err… Wouldn’t the driver’s operation depend upon various facets of the hardware? If not, then wouldn’t it be akin to:

• Query devices
• Select device (if more than one available)
• Select input type (mono, stereo, left, right, 5.1 blah blah, as available) %
• Select input format (ie PCM 44.1kHz, etc, as available) %
• Open device
• Read data
• Close device

Possibly with:

• Suspend device
• Resume device
  to permit pausing without either a, blindly “recording” and chucking away the data, or b, closing and then the formalities of reopening. A suspended device would still be “open” and so can’t be opened by something else, for instance.

Or have I missed something here?

% – Just because the Beagle only has a stereo audio in doesn’t mean future hardware mightn’t have multiple inputs (mic/line, for instance) or a virtual device for things such as DVD audio tracks. Considering this now and catering for it as best possible in the API today can potentially save lots of pain in the future.
