External (usb) hard drive

I am considering to buy an external USB hard drive for my RPi3B running RiscOS.
It will be USB powered.

Is it possible to create a RiscOS partition and a FAT32 partition?
How can I proceed and what format should I choose for RiscOS?

I have not done it, so reserve the right to be wrong…

I think you need to:

• Format the drive “FileCore” to the desired size, say 123GB.
• On a PC or Linux, create a partition table (simple table – I don’t think that overwrites anything important to FileCore) marking the 123GB section as occupied. If you have a lot of space, add a bit to the partition size to give some leeway. Also check very carefully if your tool is using GiB/MiB or GB/MB!
• Then create a FAT partition and mark it as the primary partition (so FAT systems will find it).
• Then format the FAT partition.

And then cross your fingers. ;-)

Personally, between you and me, I’d get a smaller drive and format it FileCore and simply not bother with the difficulties with FAT.

Alternatively, if your FAT partition doesn’t need to be big (<= 1888MB), SystemDisc ought to be able to do this. It asks me to pick a filesystem (SDFS or SCSI) so I presume this means it’ll be happy to write the Pi’s FAT+FileCore combo to a USB device… http://shop.elesar.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=73

Hello

I have found a USB 750GB Hard Disk. This one will be dedicated to RiscOS, so no need for a FAT32 partition.
I used HForm on was able to format it up to 256GB.
I would like to create 3 partitions to use the full capacity of my hard drive.
I can I do it?
Note: I have a license of !SystemDisk from Piccolo Software. Could this help?

I do not think so. RISCOS does not support patitions.

The ARMX6 does. Not sure how that’s rolled into the OS in general, however:
