Iconset?

Hi, Now I have a working Beagle, I pulled off some sprites for my user guide (zip doesn’t appear under RPCEmu ‘cos SCSI doesn’t start). RISC OS 5.18 uses a cog wheel for task manager, while it seems like the 5.19 builds seem to use the Iyonix jellybean. What is the official icon set for RISC OS? BTW, can we have a custom start-up logo for the different boards? I did this on my A5000 but I don’t remember how… |

Ah, but the thing is – did anything concrete come from this? There is a big difference between talking and doing (just look at the UN vs Syria). I don’t want to be a b@$tard, but the icon set /needs/ to be locked down by this weekend, otherwise either the guide won’t match the OS (could be problematic for newbies) or the guide author(s) will need to jiggle icons and example windows over and over in order to make it all match up with every change. I know it is a rush, deadlines etc, but if the work on the documentation is going to succeed, it needs to match the OS and thus the OS look (at least for /this/ version) needs to be nailed down. Just noticed the iconise icon is different too (5.18 – bar, 5.19 – ball). So, I repeat… What is the official icon set going to be? |

As for icon preferences, I prefer the ball for iconise, but don’t like the jelly bean for task manager, the cog makes more sense. The zip icon has to go, it’s just weird. How about a sort of 3D memory key with a superimposed USB logo on it? I’d do it myself except I’m horrible at shading (my icon designs better fit RISC OS 2!). Other than that… It is too late for a big overhaul of the OS graphics if we’re to make it for the RPi. RISC OS is dated, but not dated like Windows3 or GEM. ;-) We can spin the “we don’t do stupid semi-transparent title bars” as a positive thing! |

I’m sorry about this, but we’re still working with someone on icons and other graphics and I don’t think we’ll have all that finalised until some time in August. I think the best you can do is script the screen-grabbing stuff so that you can re-run it easily and get all of the correct graphics at the eleventh hour. If you’re not sure how to do this, I’m sure someone on the forums would be able to point you at a tool/tools to do this… |
