Making music with RISC OS

Hello, Is there any up to date & maintained music making software for RISC OS? Trackers or MIDI editors or anything like that. I’m considering making an album and it would be fun to be able to say that I used RISC OS to make a few of the tracks. I know there’s Maestro, but it’s not especially easy to use. PM |

Or there is a port of Milkytracker. Check on this page about half way down: |

Do any of those work with MIDI? |

AMCS is actively updated, but it does currently have some very specific hardware requirements. It was last updated just a few weeks ago but the website seems to be having issues at the minute, perhaps try their FaceBook page. |

Thanks to the Midi-USB module from Rick, some old Midi software can work: All is needed are tests. |

I’ll have a look, Rob. I think we did at one point, as we worked with ESP on a few things (I know we had a variety of bits and pieces from them for a long time). I’m not sure what’s left in the box, to be honest. |

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Rick: I emailed you about a related matter recently, using the email address on your website. Could you let me know if you got it? |

Sorry Chris. Meant to reply to that over the weekend, but got sidetracked trying to find the backup CD of RISC OS stuff I made back in 2001. Yikes. Didn’t find it, BTW. I may have to see if the RiscPC still boots… Hmmm… It’s somewhere under the cobwebs. I’ve flagged the email as “unread” and I’ll have to have a look at what Maestro does for MIDI. I’m pretty sure that if MIDI is selected, the data is sent to MIDI and not to the internal sound system. |

Cool – thanks :) |

Okay, I’ve just rebooted my Pi twice before I realised that there’s a pleasing beep as RISC OS starts, but by the time it gets to the desktop everything is really quiet. What’s with that? My configuration is for max volume loud, StringLib Hard. It should be a jarring CLANG!…
Wrong. Giving Maestro too much credit. It always plays to internal. Also to MIDI if present…

Yup, that one still works. If the Purple Palace should finally drop dead, or Verizon kills it, I’ve another. Simply switch Yahoo! for GMail and you’re good to go. |
