OWB Origyn Web Browser - RISC OS

The Acorn market has a lot of past history of early teases for products that turned up a lot later, different, or never at all – there was a lot of teasing for Tempest, a DTP package that made it to beta and… vanished! This isn’t to say that these items will also vanish – it’s more a warning about announcing something too early. However in this specific case, it’s a double edged sword. An announcement was necessary to raise the cash to get the thing started, but it’s hardly a weekend project. Teams of developers take a lot of time between releases. Be patient. As for the international angle. Well, that’s another Acorn problem, the barest little understanding that the rest of the world exists. :-) |

Exactly my opinion. |

I want to make things clear: I really don’t /didn’t want to spend endless amount of work to end up void! |

Been there, done that. “There’ll be two developers and a pre-existing graphics engine, so we’ll announce now. <later> Oh, BTW, there’s only one developer and you’ll have to write the graphics engine yourself. When will it be ready?” |

Yes, this is a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” thing. People wanted to know what RISC OS developments was doing (browser) because we were perceived to be too “hush hush”, but then we run the risk of pre-announcing. You’ll note we don’t (as a rule) pre-announce, but the feeling was that once web browser progress was demonstrable, it was worth going public for the sake of transparency. Similarly on laptops – we’re having to make a sizeable financial commitment to buying stock etc, so having it be public and people expressing interest/deposits allows us to budget and control cash-flow. Also, this is one of those products that people would want to know was coming. Normally, as with our previous machines, we’d be “tada!” (think ARMX6, mini.m etc) with more-or-less instant availability. |

We’ve certainly taken payment by PayPal (IIRC) and shipped overseas before, although it might not have been the newsletter CD. Talk to WROCC: don’t complain on an internet forum, but drop us an email. :-)
To be fair, new editions of Archive are very difficult to get even if you live in the UK and have paid up front… |

Looking for anybody to help beta test? :-) |

Always a difficult exercise.
Cool. I sent you an email on your WROCC address.
And DVD23 seems not to be available.

Fait quoi? Tu parles étranger! :-) [hmm, I think it loses something in translation] |

Thanks – I’ve just spotted it… I’ll be fairly busy until Sunday, but will get back to you once that’s over. :-) |

Of course :) |

I don’t think anyone could regard Mr Rawnsley as a fly-by-night Johnny-come-lately. I remember when I thought him a youngster. |

It’s completely off topic, but I received the WROCC Newsletter CD Issue 9 and it’s really a must have, with bunch of information. |

Looking forward to trying this out, is Michael still working on this? |
Michael Grunditz (467) 531 posts |
I am still working on it. But there will be some time before release. Because of Google search page changed I started on a newer engine. There is always a balance act when to release software. |

The joys of software development! Glad you are still working on it. |
