Just out of curiosity; but how many people are actually getting involved in using the sources and updating them back to ROOL? Would be interesting to know just how many are. Feel free to reply if you are contributing. nx |

I’m involved with one project to update the ROOL sources, so there’s at least one coder active. From the forums, there look like a couple more. It does seem very quiet, but it’s possible people are just getting on with things in isolation, or are waiting for components to be released. I’d be very encouraged if Alex Waugh’s proposed changes to the filing system were pursued, as this is a major area of weakness for RISC OS. If that project were a success, then maybe things would begin to take off in other areas. I’m also hoping that, once the ROOL team get through the tedious business of releasing the sources, they’ll have a bit of time to do some coding. |

I have been doing some work on the Window Manager to allow implementation of new features in C rather than assembler. I am looking at reimplementing the rectangle management to allow creation of non-rectangular windows but I don’t have a huge amount of time to dedicate to this so progress is slow. |

If this work takes off, you might want to touch base with Fred Graute at some point, who I know is also doing work on the Wimp. There may be scope for collaboration. |

Its good to see that there people willing to give up their free time to move the OS forward. Its just a shame that there seems to be so few – but as you say Chris, perhaps they are working in isolation, but it would be good to get feedback from all contributors so we can see how people are involved. Thanks for your responses and effort. Anyone else contributing please reply. |
