Oh, that fight was lost long ago. Shall I tell you the one about the paperless office?
Ah, I see. You don’t mean using the console for business purposes, you mean the business of selling the console and add-on stuff. Your way of writing is…….quirky. Thing is, business opportunities are all over the place. There’s a guy at work who makes a little cash on the side by playing games. He gets assigned a character, I guess a sort of World of Warcraft sort of thing. He’s pretty good so this character gets played up to an impressive ranking with all sorts of add-ons. Then he sells this character for actual cold hard cash. Apparently people pay quite well. So he has fun in the game and gets paid for it. I guess I don’t have a get rich quick scheme like that because I’m utterly crap at games (I can’t blame my dyspraxia, I’m actually really crap) and because I can’t fathom why somebody would want to pay top dollar for somebody else’s character. But, as is evidenced all around, anything created spawns business opportunities. If we made a printer, say, well there’s a market for clone inks. Or coated paper. Or cleaning kits. Or… and that’s just an example off the top of my head. Well, look at the Pi and how many “hats” and expansions exist. My little HDMI LCD module has a touch sensor (it was cheap so probably resistive) on the front, and a Pi compatible interface on the back. Built for Pi, you might say… |

It is extremely pleonastic. In your submission of two hours ago, Mr Fun, I noted the following pairs, mostly joined by and .
I even found myself wondering whether your submission was constructed by a program. Please do not take this as anything more than the curiosity of a word-fiend. Pleonasm can be cured by the application of a magic pepper-pot. When moved over text it removes all superfluities; but it needs emptying every now and then, when you must be careful not to induce logorrhea in those who happen to be in its ambit. |

ROFL @ Gavin. Love the magic pepper pot. I think I shall write a magic pepper pot app for RISCOS. |

I was thinking that way very early on. My alternate was Nordic and seeking it’s lost bridge. |

Reminds me of the !Dilbert app I acquired lo these many years ago. Sadly I think it’s not 32-bit compatible. Well, I guess another programming project beckons :-) |

I read about the magic pepper-pot in a short story in a sci-fi magazine in the 50s. Cousin Len’s Wonderful Adjective Cellar by Jack Finney. The story appeared in The Ladies’ Home Journal in 1948. I gave away all those magazines to the North London Polytechnic in the 60s, handing the boxes over to the librarian in a lay-by on the North Circular. What passers-by imagined was going on I dare not think. I never visited the North London Polytechnic or discovered what had happened to my gift. |

Tested on RPCEmu v0.9.1 with RO5.27 (10 Dec 2018) and it runs so it’s 32 bit at least. |

Nice one :)
Y.E.S.
‘The’
Be a developer and get all the (CPU) power.
In fact RISC OS 5.26 is multi core and can do that. But no one knows how to do that but Jeffrey.
You’re perfect.
You’re very welcome.
You mentioned so much thing on your blog…
Brilliant. |

And there`ve been playing with words in my own flowery way, and getting attention for it, what a hoot, while I use the term “quirky” in a complimentary way myself, so thanks. In a nutshell, have mainly software and hardware installation experience for Windows, while presently phasing out of a stimulating 10 year business unpaid networking IT hobby,…. ….yet been set back and depleted constantly though ultra-sensitivity to being bombarded by wifi radiation around me, that I have recently rectified, and bouncing back with a vengeance from, with energy and inspiration to die for, while open to gravitating to a stunning worthwhile killer project, that being a utopian minimalist vegan provides clarity for, to recognise an opportunity here to create a new 64-bit Risc OS along with others through cohesive, co-operative, bantering, focussed and friendly communication. So then, how about opening up a development project for the whole world any- and everywhere to see, follow, marvel at and grow by, step by step through spontaneous evolution, and simply let it unfold and flourish as fate and fortune sees fit, and call it something like RISC4ALL, that benefits, enhances and advantages the planet and it`s inhabitants, and even businesses and their vested interests, through. |

Hey, Rick M, we make our own bed to sleep in, and our capacity for fun is fostered by the imagination we apply right from the outset, to create our own tools based on nothing previously released anywhere, as a radically different yet progressive and stimulating process and activity, that brings all desired features to the fore usefully, and so appeal to ideal human perfection in us everyone. Reinvent the wheel? You bet!!! |
John Fun (6683) 49 posts |
Just to put this all into credible context and perspective, can ask a first question: why this website and Risc OS, and therefore why not stir and even hallucinate and get ridiculous and crazy somewhere else, ha ha? I realise that this could well be totally unacceptable for diehard programmers and analysts who have already established themselves within their destined niche and either refuse or are simply unwilling through personal preference to create from the ground up in reinvention. So, what then has this in common and relation to the current and/or traditional Risc architecture and concept to make this possible venture relevant and ongoing in continuity of some kind with what has been happening up till now? Well, it all comes back to basics, about the absolute worth and recognition of the individual human being faculties, first and foremost, otherwise we`d be subservient to some robotic culture by now. Hardware is around and evolving as serving us and our wants and aspirations, and not the other way round, which is being repeated yet emphasized, in order to remove harsh and unnecessary expectations of a grueling journey forwards through trial-and-error grit-your-teeth perceptions from past experiences. Manufacturers simply have to produce the goods properly including all required documentation without hesitation…… ……otherwise they are upholding progress at their own detriment and even potential business loss. Insecurity, invasion of privacy, fear, boredom, tediousness and anything else negative is removed, put into the past where it belongs, and replaced by a fervent, bubbling, curious, alive and hungry spirit and consciousness and awareness to actualise all our abilities and qualities and strengths moving forward, as on a road to somewhere, good and sure and fulfilling. This is simply re-confirming a liberal outlook. |

So. We write !MagicPepperPot and a new !Dilbert. Run !Dilbert with the output connected directly into !MagicPepperPot’s input. What will the output be? Or connect this “modernized !Dilbert” up to to !MagicPepperPot. Will the “biological components” be revealed? Or will there be nothing left at all? Or perhaps random vaguely human garbage picked up around this site? |
John Fun (6683) 49 posts |
OK, so now, how on earth, anyone may ask, do you in your wildest dreams, ever imagine that the long hard development process can be re-transformed into one of moment-by-moment adrenalin-pumping discovery and fascination without a single setback, and this applies even to the magnificent stalwarts of software who have been conquering and making inroads and a difference forever, although many like me then learn and are inspired enormously from and by them? Couple this with the prospect of restricting our sphere of freedom to one minute venture and it`s orientation in the larger picture, at the possible exclusion and sacrifice of expressing the universal principal that: variety is the life of spice (ha ha, or spice of life, as normal), and become bogged down in 0`s and 1`s binary to have any semblance of a chance, with low probability, to get going and liftoff the ground, before becoming overtaken and demotivated by disappointment and lack of satisfying progress to a standstill. Now if this forthcoming idea, in the next paragraph, is secondhand knowledge and realization to some or many, excuse any naiveity or unawareness on my part, yet maybe of value to others, so bear with me, as someone who happens to adore Microsoft Windows and anything they touch as super user friendly and simply fun and colourful and pretty flexible and above all intelligent, all appealing to my human self, and who still considers Basic as a magic language, especially as a compiler, and see alternative 64-bit offerings like PowerBasic, even if not suitable for creating operating systems with much ease…. So, see my numerous Windows pcs, laptops and servers on hand in a new fresh light as potentially instrumental, at a pleasurable yet still high level utilizing appealing languages, of simulating anything, including low-level code somehow. OK, if you`re laughing at me, then you likely been there, done it and worn the T-shirt, and in fact, reckon as far as quantity goes in equipment, more can be as useful as less, cos even an old pc can do something interesting still. The day that RISC4ALL (or whatever a sucessful new OS coming to fruition is called) is completely versatile, is when we enter a new age of technological liberation that everyone can be uplifted by. |

If you think about it the two functions in series could do something dastardly from the viewpoint of the object/target so combine the two in one and call it !Dogbert. BTW. As commented earlier !Dilbert (1.01 (26th Nov 2002)) is 32bit compatible. Untested on modern hardware though. |
John Fun (6683) 49 posts |
To Patrick M: The version number of RO seems past 2/II so am then proposing a new series that in this case is represented by a unique name like “RISC4ALL” , for the moment at least, which can be continued to be discussed about under this forum subject “ARM64”. To Steve P and Clive S: based on my insight into cause and effect, reckon the human garbage came first and has been there for some time, meaning that plugging !Dilbert into !MagicPepperPot is highly likely to give unpredictable results in terms of “biological components” |

Gavin: Alexa.. https://xkcd.com/1807/ John:
To take a moment for a little pleonasm here, we nerdy types write code and deal in logic. As such we prefer our communications to be succint, precise, and to the point. In my wildest dreams (a-ah-aaah), I don’t think I’d ever figure out what you were trying to communicate in your last message. I rather suspect I am tossing morsels at the Troglodytarum, or maybe at an uncommon peikko. |

Am awaiting feedback from an importer techie about the Rock Pi 4 board, hopefully tomorrow or soon and before they close for Xmas, that is a brilliant starting point platform to base ongoing interest and potential coding on and for, and if the price is right and reasonable, can immediately look into obtaining instruction set info on the Rockchip RK3399 CPU which seems to be a recent upgrade on their other previous arm64 RK3288 for that same model. I bought a Cloudgate Android Media PC three-and-a-half years ago that I`ve seldom used until now, for streaming some movies I`m watching this festive season, yet am finding a lack of low level info for what is surmised elsewhere on the net to be the correct CPU, namely the 32-bit ARMv7 RK3188 processor. |

“Manufacturers simply have to produce the goods properly including all required documentation without hesitation” Good luck with that one… |
John Fun (6683) 49 posts |
To Rick M: I am meaning instant universal access to a wide range of software to everyone from students to professionals for all kinds of purposes, once completed, as the end goal while we enjoy the ride and journey. No harm in us expanding our horizons as nerdy types in full awareness of how we`re excelling. So, I am simply laying out an ongoing philosophy for our new collaboration to proceed, as in painting the big picture top down deductively to the details you`re looking to revel in while seeking an inductive means to perceive the whole point bottom up, being and questioning and participating here. |

Thanks Stuart S, we have plenty to offer, and have every reason to succeed, either with this board or an alternative if it comes to it. Being positive gets you anywhere you really want, and nothing less. |
