Does anyone know if the C/C++ Tools are going to be released under the same license as the OS? |

Is it possible to get updates (paid for) to the tools, instead of buying the package again ? Tank |

Never is the short answer. The licence we have is complex and not available for renegotiation. These are always going to remain a commercial product and you will not have source code to them. Sorry. Second question: see https://www.riscosopen.org/news/articles/2009/10/02/c-c-tools-upgrade-for-half-price |

Does the licence imply a fixed royalty going back to ARM? So, if you wanted to, could you sell them for 99p? Obviously there are some logistical problems with this, but just a thought… |

To be absolutely honest with you, selling the tools since April has allowed ROOL to have some cash to help it attend a show and buy some equipment for use at shows. Because we’ve not done any new merchandise this year, the income from Tools sales has been essential. Also, it’s getting harder for people to see a reason to donate now that most of the hard work (from our side) has been done – witness the lack of exciting new source code publications. I don’t want people to rush out and donate because of what I’ve said though! I’d feel guilty because we’ve not had a great deal of spare time to dedicate to ROOL either in recent months. The best donations we can have at the moment are developers developing and we seem to be getting more and more of that so I’m happy =D |
