Order status?

Tried to send this to info @ riscosopen.org but it was rejected. Did this get missed, heard there were probs with the web site, monies debited from my credit card but not had any confirmation from ROOL. If it’s just a case of being inundated with orders, fair enough. Col. |

Whilst I can’t comment on your situation, that was the information I got back from ROOL earlier. They said they were inundated with orders and were awaiting stock from the factory, which my order was a part of. I hadn’t received a confirmation email either, but then realised I hadn’t when I bought the USB sticks and widgets from them previously. Andy |

Having ordered NutPi primarily in order to get an updated DDE, is there any way that I can get a DDE (just for the Raspberry Pi) as a download in the meantime? With all the help I’ve received from members here, I’d love to have a go at porting some old software from 26-bit/RISC OS 3.7/RiscPC to 32-bit/RISC OS 5/Pi… |

Drop your requests to notify at riscosopen.org and we’ll see what we can do. |

Might I suggest an update to order status for those of us who have ordered the RISC OS SD card and the NutPi SD card ? What is the expected lead time etc. |

Well, we certainly had a lot more orders than we’d planned, which can only be a good thing I suppose! It’s been the story all ‘round really – the web site has seen masses of traffic, beating all previous records and we’ve had more press coverage in a week than in the previous six years. On the SD card front, we’ve been chasing up a pretty tardy supplier pretty much every day (including weekends) and we’re pulling our contingency plans into action. We’ve scheduled a review for Sat afternoon so hopefully we will have a more definite lead time for you later on Saturday. We’re very sorry to those of you who have seen your orders delayed – this should all be sorted out next week (one way or another!). |

Thanks for the update Steve. Yes, it IS a good thing. Who knows, maybe ROOL and all the other programmers, not forgetting the Raspberry Pi foundation, have helped to put RISC OS back onto the map. |

re. my post elsewhere – I don’t need to check anything regarding order now. Demand problems noted. Of course while people don’t have the toys to play with they might find the time to document their programs and help out by looking at ROOL pages with a view to updates. |

Is the nut-pi package available indefinitely, or is it for a limited time? Can it be installed without swapping out the Boot Card? (i.e. from a USB SD reader.) |

The NutPi product is intended to be a long-term thing, so we have no plans to stop selling it on our site. Installation normally works like this:
Once you’ve got to that point, you can pick and choose which individual apps to install, following whatever instructions they include. This does rather assume you’ve not renamed the boot card from “RISCOSpi”. If you have chosen to rename the RISCOSpi card, you’ll just have to do the copy operation manually with the filer (rather than running !PiCopy). If you set the next slot to be nice and big (let’s say 60MB) then it should reduce the number of times you have to swap between the cards – ideally, you want all of the NutPi contents to fit into the slot in one go, which is what !PiCopy does to simplify things. If you have an SD card reader, the process becomes even simpler; you won’t have any card swapping and it should all just work nice and seamlessly. In fact, there’s little point copying the software archives across from the NutPi card to the RISCOSpi card – you’d be better off just installing the apps directly from one card to the other. |

So it’s just bog standard archives, with an additional instaleer to allow simple install from a stand alone Pi. So a network install from an Iyonix would work. (I don’t like unplugging my SD too often.) The impression I get is that the programs are special versions for the Pi, does that mean they are compiled for ARM 6 specifically? Are they the latest versions or previous versions? (Not that it matters at the price, but it would be nice to know.) Ta |

When you say “network install from my Iyonix” do you mean: put SD card reader into the Iyonix and access it on the RPi via ShareFS? If so, that should be fine.
We’ve tried to be very clear about this – the versions of the applications included in the NutPi pack are locked-down the the RPi hardware. They will not run on any other machine. Well, that’s the general case. Some of them will run but require registration and that won’t work unless you can prove you’re running it on a RPi. Really, those details are up to the individual software vendor.
It’s hard to say because some are slightly cut-down versions of the full app, some are slightly older than the latest version and some are simply the latest version but locked to RPi hardware. They are all fully functional in the sense that none of the apps has been crippled (i.e. a vital feature removed). |

For the avoidance of doubt: Photodesk which is on NutPi is the latest full version, i.e. it is not a cutdown version. |

Hi, just a quick question: should I have received an acknowledgement for an order for a nut-pi card last week? Completely understand that you’re probably snowed under with stuff at the moment, so not being pushy – just curious to know whether orders are being acknowledged, or just shipped out when the cards are in stock. Ta, |

As with Chris, for the avoidance of doubt WimpWorks is the latest, full version as well. |

Good news! We have SD cards in stock so the wheels are turning again on fulfilling orders. I’m hoping people will start seeing things arriving through their letterboxes by the end of this week. |

Hopefully mine (rather than a few doors down). Mind you he taught at my old school many moons ago1. 1 The world seems to have aged since then. |
