Yes, the filenames are weird, but SparkFS remaps them and they work fine. Looks like a simple case of file corruption.

Make sure to have a recent SparkFS version though – there were earlier versions that had problems with various characters in filenames. Not sure in what context I ran into that problem, probably SparkFS 1.28 on a RISC OS 3.1 machine.

What’s changed…

• Supports numerical entities for accented characters (instead of inline UTF-8). This was because a German language book was using this method for all the umlauts.
• Now dynamically allocates manifest/spine arrays, to cope with a book with 76 objects in the spine and 146 in the manifest (phew!). Of course, that was because of me thinking “who puts that much rubbish into a book file? 128 entries is plenty”. Yeah… about that 640K thing… ;-)
• Bumped up the WimpSlot so it won’t crash on earlier operating systems.

The Run file looks for SparkFS 1.44. It’s available from David’s site, so no excuse for not having an up to date version.
