In a completely general context, that’s true. In specific contexts, it’s bullshit. Out on the open road, diesel particulates are unimportant (they get rained out and lost harmlessly in soil, where they’re nothing out of the ordinary) and nitrogen oxides aren’t very important either – the concentrations don’t get high enough to matter to anyone. Carbon dioxide is as bad out there on the open road as anywhere else. In cities, the carbon dioxide is no worse than it is anywhere else, but the diesel particulates and nitrogen oxides are a serious health hazard. |

Should have been the first thing you did…
Oh come on. We’re in this Brexit mess because people would rather believe simple minded slogans like “let’s get Brexit done” than anything that resembles analysis of why everybody is being taken for a sucker by hedge fund managers and their lackeys. Politicians say “woe is diesel”, the populace parrot “woe is diesel” and everybody thinks diesel is horrific. Whether it’s true or not doesn’t really factor into this.
Of course. It has no gearbox. So the power from the engine goes to the belt driven CVT transmission/clutch gizmo, and following that is a simple little mechanism to go forwards or backwards. It’s designed to be simple.
Oh, I’m well aware of the “because you can” aspect. Wasn’t it Brabus (sp?) that had a habit of putting really big engines into really small cars? I think that’s kind of how the MG Metro came into being. My point was, by fiddling with the limiter, you can get that car with that engine into the high eighties. Okay, you’re slaughtering the engine, but doing those sorts of speeds in a vehicle that’s basically made of plastic is already a huge bucket of crazy. I mean, the thing is so light you could probably get it airborne if you bolted on some wings.
The best things are the ones where all the sensible reasons are for not doing it…

Young and trusting. I learned not to assume anyone else had a working braincell, hence me doing house electrics with the main fuse in my rear pocket poking into me. The minor discomfort is very reassuring. |

Back to the original topic… I’ve got a preliminary Pushover client ready for people to try. Its name and its Wimp message are not allocated (and when the Wimp message allocation comes through, it will of course be different). So anyone who would like to try, you will need to download and install the Pushover app, and create your own app on the Pushover site. You only get a free 7 day trial period, but at the moment the ongoing version requires a one time payment that I consider small. You will need the User Key and the App Token that Pushover will create for you. The proper docs may take me longer than writing the app, but they will follow. In the meantime I can only hope that the small !Help file will be enough for any programmer with brain switched on. After all, there is very little functionality – you send a Wimp message to the app using the hooks provided, it forwards the message to your phone and alerts you. I try to apply Occam’s Razor :-) |
