Voice to Substitute the WaveSynth-Beep

After installing a voice in PreDesk and set it as the new default it doesn’t sound on re-boot. I guess this is to do with the OS supplied voices being in ROM and being available at boot-up time whereas a voice in PreDesk requires the OS to be up and running before sounding.

Workaround?

Without rolling your own ROM build I very much doubt it as I’m pretty sure the beep occurs before the boot drive is accessed.

The beep is a VDU 7 inserted into the boot text “RISC OS blah blah” stuff.
As Chris says, it happens when the OS is up and running but before it’s even looked at the filesystem.

Workaround? Possible but tedious.
Disable the boot beep.
Put your custom voice into PreDesk.
Write an obey or some BASIC to load it and set it as the current voice.
Issue a VDU7 yourself.

Do you find WaveSynth to be too quiet? I’ve set my Pi to use StringLib-Hard instead. A much more pleasing clang.
