No Luck - Pi 4 and an Odd Pi 3+

Well, I’d got plans of getting into Pi so that I could use RiscOS. But still no luck, should had reserched more. Currenlty I have two Pi’s and neither is usable (yet) I bought a Kano Touch kit for cheap, but the Pi 3 it comes with has a differnt USB chipset and means it wont boot. I then bought a Pi 4 4GB … without looking up support! So currently its on Rasbian but I’m now looking into the USB-C port so I understand it can be used that way has I have power going in on a Hat so who knows. Just thought I’d share where I am and say thankyou for being here! |

I can’t see why the Pi3 won’t boot RISC OS. What do you mean when you say it has a different USB chipset – different to what? I wasn’t aware that the Kano systems had different boards in them to the standard Pi. The Pi 4 works. In a shameless plug, there’s a blog posting here |

I wasn’t aware they had got custom boards either when I made my purchase. It is only the Kano Touch that has this issue. The Kano previous Pi Based Kano kits used standard boards. However the final Kano Touch, has a GL852G USB2.0 Chip to replace the LAN9514 USB2.0+10/100 chip which is why it also doesn’t have a hardware Ethernet port! I’m sure I’ve got a USB-C OTG adapter somewhere so I’m going to have to find it. |

The Kano Touch “Custom Pi” should still have BCM2835 USB host functionality on the USB power plug. So with the mentioned Ace4U hub it should work. But then will RISC OS support the Kano Touch “touch” and the wireless keyboard? |

Well I tried the Kano 3+ without the Touch Panel and it all worked fine! |

Avoid realtek usb ethernet like the plague. AX88772 is the way to go for RISC OS compatibility. |

Whoa. Harsh! ;-) Because it’s incompatible, or because it’s just mediocre? |

It’s not supported by RISC OS. See here for the situation as of May 2012, and here for subsequent updates. |
