Looks cool. I see you have an SSD attached. What’s the performance like when used with RISC OS? How fast is boot to desktop? |

On my Minim with E-SATA attached SanDisk 120GB I get 73MB/s read and 76MB.s write which isn’t great. It’s better than the same SSD with a USB3 to SATA3 adaptor which only does 19MB/s and 17MB/s. On a Linux Raspberry Pi 4 with the same USB3 to SATA3 adaptor, the 64MB version of drive manages 384MB/s and 171MB/s. The maximum performance of the drives directly connected to a PC motherboard SATA3 interfaces is; 64GB 404MB/s and 186MB/s, and the 120GB slightly faster at 417MB/s and 322MB/s. The Minim’s RAM disc (uncached memory) manages 147MB/s read 391MB/s write, Memphis (cached memory) does 406MB/s and 399MB/s. Which tells me the maximum performance of the filing system stack, isn’t getting anywhere near the performance of a decent SATA3 SSD such as the 512GB Samsung EVO 850 which does 506MB/s read and 494MB/s write (when new). |

Some SSD drives have on board RAM so that writing only slows down as the drive and the RAM cache fill. Sometimes therefore the performance figures can be misleading. |

Are there any disk benchmarking tools for RISC OS? It’s faster than the SD card I was using previously. I also feel like my data is safer on the SSD. Bootup time is 15 seconds. |

I found RISCOSmark. RISCOSmark 2.04 (30-Dec-2015) by Richard Spencer 2003 MOS Utilities 5.24 (16 Apr 2018) Test Benchmark |

You could try Discspeed by Matthias Seifert – back in the days when we measured the speed of SCSI podules, it was the only one achieving reproducable results. http://www.software-evolutions.de/download/free/ Not sure if it is 32bit compatible, last time I tried was perhaps in 1997 or whenever I got that Eesox SCSI podule…away from all my 32bit machines at the moment so cannot test myself. |

I’ll give it a try thanks Steffen. Looks like I’m getting about 14MB/s with RISCOSmark |

There are some ROMark benchmarks here |

!Speed is a legacy disk speed analyser which does run on a Pi3 under Aemulor. Not sure how accurate it is, though on my setup it agrees fairly well with RISCOSmark. |
