A random font?

Is there such a thing as a random font? Before you answer, note that I have put this in the singular. I don’t mean different fonts selected randomly as you type. What’s prompted me to ask is receiving a ‘thank you for your donation’ card from a charity where it seems to be handwritten except that the same letter occurring in different places varies ever so slightly. It seems too uniform for handwriting. The writing, if that’s what it is, on the envelope is in the same style. If there is no such font, will one be invented? It would look more like real handwriting than current ‘handwriting’ fonts that are uniform. I think it would have to be a separate application to standard font applications. |

I think there are a few such fonts. I’ve seen several such examples, and I don’t think they were even all the same style. Sadly I’ve not kept any of them to compare carefully. Not sure how they work. The obvious way would be to have different versions of the letters at different code points, but that would be a tedious thing to type, unless a special app selected the different glyphs randomly for you. |

They probably fall into the classification of “handwritten fonts” and a query for that produces quite a lot of links like this
Where’s Nemo when you need him? Probably something related to the way that software recognises “th” or “fi” or “oe” and substitutes. |
