ShadowCast: HDMI-Input for Windows/MacOS

I have just seen this KickStarter project which will produce an HDMI to USB-C video input adapter which you can use on Windows / MacOS. Of course it is not directly RISC OS related but I can imagine some use cases. You could connect a Raspberry Pi to your laptop when you are on the go and have no other display. Also you can record the output or use it to share the RISC OS screen on video conferences without the network / VNC. Note that you will be limited to FullHD / 30 and it seems that only USB-C on the Windows/MacOS computer is supported. I am not connected to this project in any way but was looking for something like that for a long time now. |

I have a capture device for HDMI to USB Memory stick which works perfectly. Or do you want stream it live ?. |

I also have already a nice capture card that uses USB-C USB 3.1 Gen 2 actually, so very low latency. It gets powered by the USB bus itself, so no other wires and captures RISC OS fine, I started to make some video with it. |

Yes, I only want to stream live so you can use your laptop as a monitor for the Pi for example. |

@ Michael
Cool, so my particular game capturing device came with a software for windows that does exactly what you’re asking for and also allows you to record video and/or take pictures. It’s more of a by-pass based device so a bit over featured for what you need, but there are other devices just for screen capturing only on amazon. Cheap devices: Expensive ones: The real difference between them is 30fps vs 60fps at 1080p and the latency. Latency is also related to the type of USB you use to interconnect them. In my experience best latency is for the very few devices that supports USB 3.1 Gen 2, but these capturing devices are still rare at the moment. Definitely do NOT use USB 2. The above capture only, no screen bypass feature available. Then there are the ones with Screen by-pass available that also allow you to display your RPi on a dedicated screen for absolute zero latency. Hope this helps :) |
