PackMan

I updated my !PackMan lists today and some package URLs seem to be pointing to riscpkg.org which has no DNS record, i don’t have a source pointing to that domain so seems a little odd. Any enlightenment would be ideal and appreciated. |

www.riscpkg.org has a DNS record, riscpkg.org does not.
It is common to have a CNAME record for the domain (riscpkg.org) without the www host to alias the bare domain onto the A Record of the www server host. |

user@domain:~$ nslookup riscpkg.org Non-authoritative answer:
user@domain:~$ nslookup delenn.riscpkg.org Non-authoritative answer: Okay i get that but a bit odd not to assign an IP to the TLD |

So assume the server is just down then. |

I posted this a couple of days ago. Just go to Advanced→Sources and untick http://www.riscpkg.org/pkg/Unstable and you can update the lists. |

I don’t have this domain in my listed sources, i did say that five hours ago. That is why i find this odd, the management of riscpkg.org is just even more odd, why would you assign an IP to www but not the root domain, just defies logic. |

It has a DNS entry, just not any A records. Here’s the output from a full DNS query:
This is (or at least was) a perfectly valid way to set up a domain which has a mail relay but no web servers (“www.riscpkg.org” is a separate entry which does have an A record). It’s an odd way of setting up a domain now, but that probably means that the DNS entries haven’t been changed since the domain was created many years ago. |

Well i updated the sources this morning (didn’t change anything) and it updated fine, very odd indeed. |

Yes there are issues with Packman, but your comments on Linux make no sense whatsoever, find a Linux forum (not here), and get someone to put you straight. |
