USB serial device

Hi

I want to read out my electricity meter using RISCOS on Raspberry pi.
For this I have a probe to do so which acts like a serial port via USB but it looks like RISCOS doesn’t have serial via USB and isn’t even made to work with more than one serial port.

Is something already made to be able to connect a serial line via USB?
Otherwise can I be pointed to the right direction on how to go about in making this myself? I used to be quiet OK with C and with machine code and I like to pick up those skills again.

The only way I know is the FTDI-Driver It only support USBtoSerial adapter with the FTDI Chipset.
I mean Thomas has use this with her own electricity meter.

The device has an Silicon labs CP2104 chip. So I need to write an driver?

What device are you using to read your meter? Could you not access the serial stream directly, before it reaches the USB converter?

Of course, this presupposes that RISC OS can read/write the Pi’s serial port, which I understand is still not possible in any straight forward manner :-(

I could buy one with an RS232 instead and connect that via a FTDI chip to USB but where is the fun in that?
