Let's get started with a Pandora port

I have tested any things on the BIK (ARMini) and compare this with the Pandora.
Boot/Configure: The Configurewindows on the BIK have a SAVE option, on the Pandora not… TRY is the last. E.g. look at the Pinboard configuration. I hav not checked this with a lower Resolution on the BIK but I’m sure it works in the past on the Pandora.

Any wishes ;-): I have two 32GB SDCards. The left has a SDCreate partition with the RISC OS boot stuff and a second for the Linux stuff. The right card is a ADFS one for the RISC OS stuff.
Two “problems”: The SDCreate cmos is searching a SCSI device. It is possible I make a mistake but a self configured SDFS cmos is only usable for the first Partition of the left card. I can not configure the right card for boot. So I must use a Dummy-!Boot on the SDCreate partition… this !Boot starts the !Boot on the ADFS-card.
The SDCreate partition is very small. RISC OS can only see the first partition. 2GB or more for datatransfer are fine. I can change this with a partition-tool but is is more work ;-)

The latest ROM should fix Linux failing to boot after RISC OS has been run. I’ve also swapped the action of the right nub, so that up = double click, down = menu.

The latest disc image should also fix the problems with configure windows which are too big to fit on screen. Over the weekend I went through them all and made sure they worked at 640×480.

It is possible I make a mistake but a self configured SDFS cmos is only usable for the first Partition of the left card.

SDCMOS will only work with the left card, since that’s the card which u-boot will load the CMOS file from. However you should be able to configure RISC OS to boot from the second card. Did you remember to do *configure sdfsdrive 1?

I’m using my Pandora with one of the Raspberry Pi FAT+FileCore SD images. You just have to replace the contents of !Boot.Loader with the files that SDCreate would write to the SD card. SDCMOS (with a CMOS file in !Boot.Loader) will work too. Hopefully Ben will produce a new version of HForm which makes it easy to create dual partition SD cards :)

Last week *configure sdfsdrive 1 switched back to SCSIFS on boot.

I have try any kind of partition cards (self made (look at the forum ;-)) and RPi) but I have no stable results. After use any times I have broken direktorys and “data dust”. My “dummy boot” version works stable since any weeks. Also on the RPi. I switched to the HD !Boot on this way.

I give a feedback if I test any things.

Hi Jeffery just a quick question not hijack this thread what has changed in the new boot that stop sound working in ROtunes?
if i use and old boot it works fine with a new boot it loads the amplayer module and says it playing but you get no sound output
it works with digitalCD??
All Roms omap 3/4 RPi

All the changes are working fine. Reboot Linux after RISC OS works.

I can confirm the soundproblem. !Kino works with disksample sound but not with amplayer.

First Supplement: *configure sdfsdrive1 and create a new cmos works with the new SD card. Not with the old one. Probably reformatted too often … In Linux, there is a FAT volume, the under RISC OS in ext. Cardreader an ADFS medium.

8th Oct ROM and Disc build playing !ROtunes 0.15 and AMPlayer 1.39 seems OK here on Beaglebaord -Xm.

Today’s ROM has the new Pandora keyboard handler that was being discussed here. The main changes are:

• Multiple keys can now be held at once, and Shift will now generate key up/down events
• The Pandora button is now the left Windows key (Previously I had it set as Alt-gr, which was redundant since RISC OS doesn’t differentiate between the two alt keys when entering accents, etc.)
• Plugging in a USB keyboard will automatically switch the OS back to using the standard keyboard handler/layout. Removing the keyboard should switch it back to the Pandora handler. But remember that RISC OS only allows one layout to be active at once, so the Pandora keyboard won’t be fully functional while a USB keyboard is plugged in.
• At the moment there’s only one keyboard layout for the Pandora keyboard, which will be used no matter what your configured keyboard layout is in RISC OS. So you can leave your keyboard layout set to German ready for if you need to use a USB keyboard.
• I think the stuck key issue is fixed
• I’ve also adjusted the position of the battery icon as suggested here

Could some kind soul tell me how to prepare a Risc OS SD Card for the Pandora ( i have Beaagle-XL, with Risc Os running on it )?

Do the same as you would for the BB but use the OMAP4 files. Go to the ROOL ROM download page, (https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/other-zipfiles
), download the OMAP4 development ROM. In the zipfile is an !SDCreate for the Panda. Run it on the BB, writing to a suitable card (I think PandaBoard takes SD cards, not the mini ones). Use the OMAP4 riscos ROM when writing the card. It works fairly painlessly. I have done that on the ARMini, but cannot test the result because I don’t yet have a PandaBoard (maybe a new year present to myself:)).

Something completely different ;-) A question (?) to Jeffrey Lee. When I start the Pandora under RISC OS, the display/colors are relatively dark. After a reboot without turning off the display is brighter and the colors are good for me. That’s with both Pandoras (batch1 and rebirth). Do you know this “problem”?

Yes, I’ve seen that problem myself. I was thinking it was only a problem with my Pandora, since you never mentioned it :)

The problem is that the LCD controller needs programming over SPI to set up the brightness/contrast and gamma table. RISC OS doesn’t have any SPI drivers, so I haven’t added a fix to the OS yet.

I have written a simple SPI driver in BASIC which I can use to fix the problem on my Pandora, so when I get a chance I’ll try converting it to assembler and adding it to the OS.

I saw this a while ago, but thought it is because of my Pandora or the software used. I also wanted the first try on the other Pandora. I will also not always be the bad guy ;-)

My posts in the forum then appeared several times identical. The ROM on December 3. I have not the problem or is not as strong.

Unfortunately not. It just does the bear minimum needed to configure one of the OMAPs SPI controllers for talking to the Pandoras LCD. However I am planning on writing a proper SPI driver with a cross-platform API, so feel free to request features or share ideas :)
