Otter Browser News

Up until fairly recently Otter Browser development was stalled for quite some time due to there not being a more up to date Qt port available for RISC OS. The latest version of Otter Browser was from September 2017. Later versions need at least Qt 5.6.

Thanks to Jake Hamby updating the RISC OS Qt port to 5.15.2 I managed to build a later
version of Otter Browser (0.9.99.3 – September 2018).

Using 5.15.2 no longer required porting everything back to the old style signals and slots. This
means there are only a handful of patches needed to Otter Browser instead of hundreds before.
This makes it much easier to get later versions of Otter Browser working.

The ‘inspector’ and the built-in RSS feed reader are now working. The ‘inspector’ enables detailed
debugging of web pages for the first time on RISC OS.
It still uses the old WebKit1 (2013) engine which is very buggy. Lots of sites still fail to render fully or very slowly.
There is a newer 2016 version. Not sure how much effort is needed to get this working. In theory much less than QtWebEngine.
