User guide tells me “HForm is in the Utilities.Caution directory on your hard disc or network.” But I have neither, only the installation micro sd. How do I download and install the Utilities.Caution directory? Any advice for a beginner, please. |

@ Ion did you have a look at the HD Image here: https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/common
You’ll find HForm in there, you can copy it to your own Utilities and you should be ready to go :) |

Double clicking on the Utilities directory will reveal the Caution directory. “.” signifies directory hierarchy in RISC OS, the equivalent of “/” everywhere else. If there is no Utilities folder or no Caution folder within then which distro is in use? HTH. |

First an apology. HForm was on my micro SD. I then read the instructions in the user guide. But my 1 TB SATA hard drive is connected via a USB port and there seems no option to find it. It only finds my micro SD. |

Does “it” in this context mean HForm, or the Filer (i.e. the icons on the left side of the icon bar)? When HForm asks for the disc type, you’ll need to enter If it doesn’t show up in HForm then open a command line (Ctrl-F12) then type |

Thanks for the speedy response. I’m struggling. It’s not Linux, Windows, MSDOS, RSDOS, but I love it so far. HForm does find it as SCSI 4 but doesn’t like it being so big (1 TB). It then offers me a number of choices of formatting. I reduced the number of cylinders so it would meet the limit of 262 GB (I thought), but when I start the format the drive does not respond and nothing changes. The Users Guide tells me that I will be offered alternate shapes to choose from, but none appear. Now I need to learn how to copy and paste from the command line to the browser. |

I don’t have/can’t find a 1TB drive, my best offer for a drive over the 256GiB SCSI maximum size is a 320MB hardisc. HForm 2.76, ROOL’s latest, identified the drive as too big and limited the format to 262144MB. The drive did format and reports itself as 256MB from its iconbar menu. (There is a bit of a GB v GiB, 1000 v 1024, thing going on.) Fat32FS will enable the full size of the drive to be used. |
