Got a 64MB or 256MB Kinetic?

Hi, Run this little BASIC program which reports how the memory map is arranged. Post the result here mentioning what memory you think is fitted. One volunteer with a 64MB and one with 256MB required. Did you ever receive a flash upgrade (for the OS ROMs on the back of the Kinetic)? Do you still have the flash programmer tool? Castle think this was written in BASIC, but seem to have lost it in their archives. Thanks in advance. |

64MB info for you: 2000000 200000 This machine was donated, so I’ve no idea if it was flash upgraded – the OS is RO 4.04 (22-01-01). I’m not aware of a flash programmer tool either, its not on the HD at least. |

64mb:
Same RPC running adjust, same Kinetic without flashrom. |

That’s great info for the 64MB, it does look like the RAM is split into two banks in a consistent manner (with a 4MB hole punched out for a softloaded OS).
Wouter, my maths says that’s 128MB on the Kinetic then 128MB+32MB+1MB on the motherboard. Is that supposed to be a 256MB Kinetic?
Logic suggests the flash got programmed somehow in the first place. The tool must exist somewhere! |

Sprow, you are right, it is 128MB. The 256MB ram I tested didn’t work. I removed the wrong numbers after I had some problems posting. Was such tool ever needed outside CTL? Was there an after-sale update from 4.03 to 4.04? |

Hi Not sure which Kinetic I have but it is running 6.20 and starts up with amwssaging saying 138MB. It has 2MB Vram and Vpod installed plus some RAM on the motherboard so assume it is 128MB given the figues. It is not one that has the ROM’s as flash as they need to go in the motherboard and it has Adjust ones , aka 4.39, which replaced the 4.03 ones I had with the Kinetic card. 20600000 1A00000 Hope it helps Doug |

@ Doug: 64MB on the Kinetic then 64MB+16MB+0MB with a 6MB hole punched out for a softloaded OS ? |

I don’t think the flash programmer every escaped Castle. There was never any upgrade so need. |

ROOL have been badgering the above since the beginning of January. We got more technical information in the last 22 hours here than from the original designers in the last 22 days! Ultimately, the flash is just flash, it’s mapped at physical address 0, the chip numbers can be read off the top, and a programmer tool written. But why waste that time when the thing already exists – somewhere. |

I have a 14 page programmers reference manual for Stealth 1 processor card. This is a full hardware and software description of the Kinetic card. I can send you a copy by email. |

You can send me a copy: jon at jaspp dot org dot uk If its a scan set, I’ll create a PDF from it. |

All you Kinetic owners out there will be pleased to hear that the latest IOMD ROM should now have Kinetic support. I’ve only been able to test it on a 128MB card myself, but it should work on 64MB & 256MB cards as well. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible! |

The latest, March 29th and 30th, IOMD ROMS appear to cause a problem with the boot on RPCEmu. All seems well until the desktop elements where repeated Task manager errors pop up. No errors logged (by Harinizumi, if run) in the boot before the desktop call. |
