There was another thread on here which talked about avatars. They are provided by a third party site whose sole purpose is for cross site user tracking … |

If you register on every site with a different email address, not only does the tracking not work, but you can have a different avatar on each site. |

Not so sure about that. I am not registered, but it still tries to track me, using my username. But easy enough to block with an entry in my hosts file. |

I’m not sure it is trying to track you so much as the forum just blindly sending off a bunch of requests in the hopes of getting some sort of avatar image back (or a default if you’re unknown). That isn’t to say they aren’t tracking users, but don’t ascribe malicious intent when a more plausible answer is brain-dead code.
For you, yes. But rather pointless as everybody else will have tried to fetch avatar “a8673274f19a2a3b30788082fe9bae63”, which I guess is some sort of hash of your email address, so in theory you could still be tracked. Given the lack of legislation, the lack of enforcement, the cross border issues, and the fact that the biggest data compilers have the attitude that money talks, and your own government outsourced the census to a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, it’s pretty much a lost battle unless you plan to exist entirely off the grid. |
