Yearly Planner

After losing some money by bungling a flight booking, I am wanting a yearly planner in a single A3 sheet size. This could be folded down to A5 for traveling.
I’m thinking a draw file with the days as objects would allow reformatting from year to year, could work out that the finished months could be grouped and moved from the left to right or top to bottom so that it will roll past December seamlessly. The paper size would get left behind, but grouping everything should get things back.
Has anyone already done something in this category?

A whole year on A3 (or two A4) is a lot of data – the text may be rather small!

<plug mode>If you have Organizer, on a 1920×1080 screen you can display 14 weeks across, or 6 columns of 4 weeks, and they can be printed on two A4 pages. Or even all on one A4 page … but smaller. With larger screen sizes more weeks can be displayed and printed.</plug mode>

Ronald can you build a draw file illustrating your request, and for reformatting they would be objects in a group, textarea for example?

Martin, the idea of using A3 was because of printer size and to scroll around if needed.
Calibre does have a bunch of formats, but by first appearances is only capable of a calendar year.
The format of a pdf I downloaded looks like it would lend well for (easy) repositioning of objects.
The week days are repeated horizontally at the top, enough to cover any month.
The months are in rows.
Each row of day objects should drag to the bottom when rolling into the next year, and also allow positioning the set left or right as needed.
Leap year being an extra job.
I will want an opaque or outline object to overlay for public holidays/weekends.
When drawing, I should only need to make one set of days in the month objects.

I have never been able to try it, but (recent) Organizer should work with an A3 printer – it should fill the page and print in any of the formats in the display. Contact me directly if you want further details.

You could make a series of Tablemate files for each month and put them on a DTP page.
Each year you can cut and paste to edit the months.

Hi Ross, Draw is available on any default machine or emulator though. Sounds like I should look at Tablemate sometime.
I have made this drawfile in Draw by using duplicate, group,ungroup, snap to grid was necessary sometimes.
Seems to be an issue selecting plain rectangle after using filled rectangle for some reason.
The grey backgrounds are possibly only complicating the select and drag job, I think public holidays could be colored in after the printout, there is only a handful.
Edit: just to recap, the idea is to be able to drag jan to the bottom and reposition to sync the days for the next year. The whole would then need to be grouped and moved up one row (using grid locked of course).
Edit: I have updated the previous drawfile and it has a new link. For Netsurf, this one may work.

You could also do similar (create table, drop into DTP) with recent versions of Fireworkz (Pro). Has the advantage of not needing aemulor, but may be overkill for “just” a table.

Fireworkz can save regions as Draw, and also save embedded files into dtp in case you need to make edits/changes later.

Sorry, but I can’t download the sample draw file.
I don’t know if you need to store these informations: a database, I use DataPower and FireworkzPro.
Otherwise the data will be embedded in the less manageable Draw file.

Jean_Micheal, sorry for not making the google drive link Netsurf friendly, I have got the method wriiten down and will look for it later.
After a bit of thought, the drawfile needs changing so the saturday and sunday grey backgrounds are in the same group as the day titles at the top, and then the lot can be set to background as it can be a permanent fixture and a month selection more clearly defined before dragging.
The year planner hardcopy booklet I have can have information too, but I want to avoid hidden stuff and use a single sheet form.
Details of a marked box could be written down on the backside of the sheet, such as booking code, departure time etc.
Edit: changes and a netsurf friendly link may work if things haven’t changed in the last year or so.

Ronald,I managed to recover your Draw file, I better understand your need.
I had fun building the same Draw file using a script, it’s a very good example for the !MkDrawf program.

The script contains macros which simplify the work, I hope the comments will be sufficient.
You can change everything to your liking. the background is made up of the names of months, days and columns of the WE.
Each month has its own construction, it is enough to specify the number of days of the month, the starting column of this one and the y position in drawing. The $phd variable is a list that contains the number of days of public holidays if there are any.

You can also change the attributes of boxes and text.

Thanks Jean-Michel, I didn’t know there was any problem downloading the google drive shared links, I noticed emails with your name requesting permission, I have not had this before.
I think the manually drawn file of mine lends itself to manual editing in Draw as I have the groups sorted for dragging.
Your MkDrawf32 example appears to be committed more towards using a script to do the redraws, perhaps understandable.
The next step for me is to see the result in the printing, using a USB to parallel convertor for my old A3 epson printer.
