What will Santa bring this year?

“aof/Resolver built with cc 5.90” – Mmmm. |

5.90 has been available for approx 2.5 months now :) |

Awww. Nobody told me :-( That fabled RISC OS communication again :-) |
Chris Mahoney (1684) 2165 posts |
As far as I can tell there was no actual announcement on the ROOL site, which doesn’t help! |

Is some kind soul going to tell me what the 5.89 to 5.90 updates are ;-) |

I don’t have the full change log (in my opinion this should be public, rather than available only to people who have already purchased the upgrade). However, I believe that _swix is now intrinsic and compiles to a ‘direct’ SWI instruction where practical, rather than spending 20 minutes faffing around with registers. |

That’d be nice (x2). Long overdue and most welcome! Take my money. [Edit: Reader, they took my money. Happy bunny.] |

;) Here are a few things I’d love to see Santa bring me.
;) I don’t want much, Santa. :) |

May be rather un-RISC OS in behaviour, like insisting on having some sort of window open. But, yeah, an editor written in something other than assembler would be good.
No idea about spreadsheets. I use Google Sheets to track what’s in my larder. A database app would probably be better…?
GPU support so we can use MPlayer (etc) for video codecs that people actually use? ;)
What’s missing?
And can handle IP address changing. It’ll need to be sorted for WiFi.
Just use DrawPlus. It’s everything Draw should have been. |

What would I like from Santa? The time to be able to play around with the OvationPro sources. Otherwise, my concerns are more practical. |

Valid for managing data. I want to be able to open those spreadsheets on RISC OS, as I can with Windows and Linux.
That would be amazing. I’m thinking more about the demo I had on my RISC PC, which enables multiple Replay windows to be open simultaneously with audio synced to the window selected; it would be even more useful if SIP could be integrated. ;)
From memory, without switching on the RiscPC, I believe it was the NT protocols, but I could be wrong.
Thank you for the tip; I’ll see if I can locate it. :) Thanks, Rick; I wish I also could have more time for fun things. |

For the same kind of reasons, 64-bit file support so that I can watch files of more than 4GB. Also, the extfat and ntfs fuse read/write drivers seem to work fine on the PI4 so a port on RISC OS would be nice. |

DrawPlus – http://www.keelhaul.me.uk/acorn/oss/ There’s also Vector that’s more powerful, but might be a bit OTT if you’re just looking for “Draw with bells on”. Of course, you can always install both. ;) |

Well, Zap is assembler and the other … |

??? 1 Not that standing outside and clapping their hands and banging drums or pots/pans did much to fill a wallet anyway. 2 Use it or lose it on the leave entitlement, then the New Year is as many 3-day weeks as I can construct as practice for June 1st onward.4 3 Ignoring the three meetings I can’t avoid that are scheduled in my leave 4 You’re curious enough to read this bit? Target date for R & R. Second “R” stops me getting bored. |

“Reaching out” < blech > my Director would rip your arm off and beat you to death with the soggy remnant. I’d grab popcorn and watch & cheer. |

Yes please. I had a bit of a fiddle with my Pi4 to see if upping GPU_freq to 750 would make any discernible difference to the smoothness of YTPlay videos at 720p: it didn’t. |

First listed comment: “Pie used to be funny. Now he’s just accurate” |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
There’s some pure anger in that one, this time. Couple Pie’s well aimed rant with a song video by somebody called LadBaby and it’s like “WTF is going on in the UK?” |

What indeed. Time to rebuild Hadrian’s Wall. Back to front. |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8170 posts |
Can we build it somewhere near the M25 and chuck all the Tories inside? |
Clive Semmens (2335) 3276 posts |
Suits me! 8~)
including “Sir” Keir and the probably 50% of other “Labour” MPs who are tories in disguise… |

The choice is a raise in taxes – like Scotland -or borrow more – some have the idea that they can milk the rich (what is rich) they have been trying that since 1066 without much success! |

Thanks, Rick, for the link. I’ll give it a whirl. I’ve tried Vector, but I prefer the simplicity of Draw for my needs; I wasn’t aware of Draw+. Hopefully, Julie, considering Draw updates, may pick up on this, a minor tweak to Draw. :) |
