I’ve been reminded of bug 448, which was “fixed” in 5.28 but there was a concern that it may have been the wrong thing to do. In the context of the last three comments on that bug, does anyone know the Style Guide’s “intentions”?

Hard to know the intentions unless you were involved in writing it, but I agree with David Thomas. If you read the style guide carefully, ellipses on a menu item are to indicate that it leads to a persistent dialogue box. The next chapter defines what is meant by a dialogue box, and one characteristic is that the box must have at least one action button. The Free space window is not a dialogue box, and there should therefore be no ellipsis.

Page 46 of the new Style Guide recommends that the iconbar menu have an entry “Help…”. This is not in the first edition of the Style Guide and I think the person who wrote this had an incomplete understanding of the intention of the ellipses. I don’t blame them at all: I had never noticed the need for the ellipsis to lead to a dialogue box, but it makes a lot of sense.

Maestro 2.19 in RC3 has issues

Maestro 2.20 now in OS5.29 HardDisc Nightly Beta fixes the issues.

Though OS5.30 has a few not insignificant hurdles yet to clear, OS5.29 has been on the receiving end of a lot of fixes as part of OS5.30 update process and so should be in quite a good place.
