csa announce

As a great coincidence Google Groups are saying that posts to csa announce will be disallowed after 22 February 2024, so any last minutes show updates (show is on Sat 24 Feb) will not be possible. |

Only impossible from Google groups. Any proper news server will give access. |

In BASIC; Usenet <> Google |

And since posts to csa.announce go to the moderator and get sent on from there, it doesn’t seem relevant. I doubt1 that Andrew is using Google Groups to post moderated items. 1 Understatement. |

I can confirm that I should still receive emails sent to csaa@owlart.net and will still be able to post them to Usenet via the Orpheus news server. |

I should also point out that the csaa Charter does state you should allow up to 72hrs for your post to be moderated, since the Moderators do have a life, they don’t sit hunched over their computer just waiting for a post to arrive so they can moderate it! As such, last minute postings regarding the Show, User Group meetings, or anything else, shouldn’t be relied upon if posted less than 72hrs before the event. |

I had hoped that it was only some google groups thing. Now to find an alternative … |

It is a pity you can’t scan the Acorn UserNews groups from your phone – I know it’s been asked before :-( |

You can on Android – there’s an app called PhoNews that does it. It’s not a great interface but it does threading and works okay. |

For posting to csa.announce, you don’t need to change anything as you should never have been posting to the group directly anyway. Just carry on sending your announcements to Andrew at the OwlArt address above, and it will work fine. |

Sorry, but that’s wrong. Posting to the group is a perfectly valid method of submitting an article. Anything posted by non-Moderators just gets rerouted to the moderator’s email anyway. All moderated groups work this way. I’d hazard a guess that around 20-30% of submissions arrive this way. |

Ah, apologies – I thought there was a problem with doing that. Thinking about it more, it might have been that some broken clients/servers didn’t get the process correct (accidentally or otherwise), and bypassed the moderator. Usenet does increasingly feel like a distant past, even though I still read the csa.* groups… |

There is also: but they don’t seem to carry .announce, .extra-cpu or .advocacy. The last two are roughly dead, but maybe somebody could ask them about adding .announce? |
