MMU required to run RISC OS?

Hihi Is an MMU required to run RISC OS? If not, it might be possible to port it to the Nintendo DS (which has 4MB RAM along with ARM7 and ARM9 CPUs) The DS is capable of booting uclinux so if the MMU isn’t required it might be worth having a go -.o; Thanks — Adam |

An MMU is certainly required. Too much of the OS and its programs rely on things being at fixed locations to be able to port the OS to an MMU-less ARM. And even if you could port RISC OS to the DS, what would you do with it? You’d be stuck with using the touchscreen as a keyboard, the screen resolution is lower than even the lowest standard RISC OS screen mode, and 4MB of RAM won’t give you much room to breathe unless you do something crazy like stream modules from the DS card. Much better to wait a few months and buy a Pandora if you want a DS-sized machine that runs RISC OS (Or so I hope!) |

Ahh right, suspected as much but wasn’t sure Yes, I’m waiting for Pandora as I have been for quite some time now, that should be quite the interesting machine running any operating system, particularly with the USB and S-Video built in which will likely work quite nicely with the upcoming Wrap 920AV display Thanks for your reply! — Adam |
