DPIng Scan Questions

I got a free USB scanner, downloaded the latest DPIng Scan and TWAIN. It won’t detect my scanner / my Pi3b locks up. Could it be my scanner is not supported? It is an Epson USB scanner. I tried with the Castle USB Twain from David Pilling’s site. |

Good question… I think each type of scanner should have its own driver, so you should have the information about the scanner you got. |

As David explains on his site, there are two parts to this, the TWAIN driver that applications talk to, and the underlying scanner driver that is usually specific to a type (or family) of scanner. Also, the scanner drivers are often “proprietary”, NDAd, etc etc. These days pretty much any modern scanner (or printer with such) is Mopria compliant. Joining Mopria for access to the specs is possible, but far outside of our budget. I’m not aware of any “available for open source” option. Perhaps someone has reverse engineered it like they did with AirPrint/URF? |
