RPi installation problem

I am a very new user of a Raspberry Pi B model, and have been attempting to install the RISCOS both from NOOBS V1.3 and a downloaded image file. In both cases the system appears to install, but leaves operation of the mouse faulty. I am certain the hardware is functional since RPi “Pidora” installs and operates correctly – both wireless keyboard and mouse function normally, and the system will connect to the internet via a USB Wifi dongle. The mouse fault means that the cursor will only move to the right from its initial central position, pressing the left button causes the pinboard to be displayed but nothing can be selected. The keyboard appears to communicate as “ESC” causes the pinboard to disappear. No other key appears to have any effect on the screen. I would be very grateful for any advice for overcoming this problem. Peter Harrison |

The version of RISC OS ROM in the NOOBS package has a known graphics fault that was addressed in a release many months back but not incorporated in the NOOBS release. Download the latest ROM image from the ROOL software pages and overwrite the RISC OS rom file you see in the yor install. Feedback request: |

NOOBS 1.3 does sadly contain an obsolete RISC OS version but it does not give the fault described, the mouse works but a trail of mouse pointers is left on the desktop. The raw download, rc11, is OK. Moving sideways RISC OS does not have drivers for WiFi, the ethernet connection must be wired. That said I bought a Maplin kit and the supplied USB WiFi dongle does not stop the mouse working. My only suggestions are to remove the USB WiFi dongle and that RISC OS does not “like” the wireless mouse and keyboard and if possible to try something else. The RISC OS USB stack might not be as robust as that in the Linux distros but it is OK here with a wired keyboard and wireless HP mouse. Straws, clutching at, fingers crossed, but hope this helps. |

Thanks for the replies – at least there is a known problem! I have looked at the original SD card files after allowing installation to complete, and am not sure which file to overwrite with the extracted download (BCM2835-RC11.5.21.zip). The extracted file which seems relevant is “riscos” 2.396Mb dated 08/07/2013 – is this the correct one? The only file of similar size on the SD card is F:\os\RISC_OS\RISC_OS_Boot.tar.xz – is this the file to replace after renaming “riscos”?? I must admit to being somewhat confused especially after having read the relevant posts on the Community Support forum Update:- Having just written this, I tried the above change just for the hell of it – system boots into the RISCOS desktop, apparently ok but now the mouse doesn’t move at all. Clearly I was on the wrong track – time for plan B!! In reply to Steve’s feedback request, I for one seem to need an idiots guide to getting the correct operating system image. Maybe an online version of “RISCOS for Dummies” !! But seriously, searching the forums for relevant information is rather hit and miss, especially when posts are submitted by more experienced users. |

I had that problem for a long time, then I swapped the mouse from a Ball to an Optical mouse and all Pi mouse problems disappeared. |

It is indeed possible for RISC OS to not like a certain mouse; I have three here and two of them work, but the other one will pop up “FileCore in use” and crash the system as soon as I move it. |
