TranJPEG - "incomplete or corrupt JPEG data" after resizing

Hello I just found the application !TranJPEG which seemed exactly what I was looking to resize my JPEGs… Unfortunatelly, the resulting JPEGs are always corrupted and the message “incomplete or corrupt JPEG data” is displayed when trying to view the resized JPEG. I am using RiscOS 5.21 8-Jul-13 on Raspberry Pi. Any help will be appreciate. Regards |

I have replied direct to your email. I think, from the information you have given here, that the problem is due to virtually no native RISC OS software being able to display smart-scaled jpegs (presumably because they are not linked with a recent version of the IJPG library). NetSurf is one app that can display smart-scaled jpegs. An alternative is to use my ConvImgs application. This is an app that will batch convert between various image formats, at the same time doing various transformations, including resizing. The main difference as far as resizing jpegs is concerned is that the TranJPEG smart-scaling is lossless, but has a limited range of resizing (factors of 2 from X2 to x1/16). ConvImgs can resize to any fraction, but the process is not lossless for jpegs because the original jpeg is decompressed to an internal rgb format and, after any transformations, is then compressed to jpeg again, the compression process will thus give some loss in quality, depending on the quality setting. ConvImgs is available from !Packman, !Store, or my web site. |

Hi Chris Thank you for your reply. THis is really a pitty because your tool is so much faster and convinient to resize than !PhotoDesk. I was really hoping to be able to batch resize lossless with !TranJPEG then to make some treatments with !Photodesk… I was really considering to buy photodesk (I already bought quite a few RiscOS apps recently), but this finding just convinced me not to do so… and stick with Windows for all my photo editing. regards |
