ViewFinder Support

Granted we don’t have a full IOMD (RiscPC) image of 5.xx yet, but: If/When it is finished, is it likely that a ViewFinder would work or not? Do those who’ve been working on the HAL know if they’ve preserved the hook-points that ViewFinder latches onto? I am pondering an acquisition, in the light of the DVI-announcement, and don’t want to find myself with a mutual-exclusion problem of using 5.xx or an expensive graphics upgrade, but not both… |

I don’t know if anyone’s going to be able to answer this. There’s very little information about it, so you might have to ask JK nicely. I don’t know for instance, if VF software is 32-bit. Apart from that, although it’s great that people are wanting to perpetuate their now ancient hardware, how about saving up a bit more and getting an Iyonix/A9. Clearly it’s more money, but that might be more satisfactory all round. |

Both fair points. I was prompted to post having already been in conversation with JK, pondering forward compatibility of ViewFinder with an IOMD 5.xx [if/when]; unfortunately he had responded “don’t know”, specifically citing the hook-points as a potential problem area—I guess he knows whether it’s 32bit-safe! New[er] hardware is an interesting point: having missed out on an end-of-line Iyonix, the 2nd hand prices seem unrealistically high; and the A9 ‘status’ is off-putting. Perhaps a Beagleboard might be the best solution, when 5.xx is fully ported… |
