why would i install this

Hy i am new and very intrested so please can someone give me arguments on what is good and bad about this os for a raspberry pi and why would i downloaf it and what can i do whith this os. So please if anyone that already used this can please tell me the pros and cons or just send me a link to a wab site or anything that can help so thx for reading

What do you expect from a Raspberry Pi?

Because of really complicated reasons, we do not have much in the way of modern media capabilities – you cannot watch HD videos with RISC OS. For that, try RaspBMC.

What RISC OS can offer you is a small, reliable, easy to manage single user operating system that allows you to get stuff done without the sort of pointless distractions (hello Facebook, Twitter…) that are commonplace elsewhere.

Best suggestion – if you have a RaspberryPi already, download it, try it out, see what you think.

Well python is available on risc os but it does rather divorce you from the base OS.
Given that the main reason for people using RO rather than any other OS on an ARM platform is the ability to closely interact with the platform, why aim at python?

If it is easy scripting that you are after, then Lua is available on RISC OS in the form of RiscLua. It is part of the RC12 distribution for the Raspberry Pi, or see http://lua.riscos.org.uk/ . It does not divorce you from the underlying OS. Apart from the assembler it provides the same facilities as BBC Basic, and with much the same syntax. The only item not completely uptodate in RC12 is the StrongHelp RiscLua manual, which now has more detail about the bc library (arbitrary precision numbers).

Lua does not come with the wealth of libraries that Python has, but most of these are not going to work under RISC OS anyway. Anybody who has some familiarity with Python will find Lua rather easy.

Nothing worse than having something that leads to false expectations, like having packages that won’t work.
