If I click on any of the Google search results for APDL, I get the Heart Internet home page, with the message: ‘This domain has been registered by Heart Internet’ [clipped] Mike |

Heart is the provider. Domain still registered to David (until August). |

No long time ago (I was thinking but I have seen it was last year as I search the mail… the time is running) I order any games e.g. Starfighter3000 without problems. I have send a e-mail to David yesterday. No answer at this time but the mail was delivered… Think positiv… his site is under construction… (I hope). |

I just tried to go to the site – wanted to investigate buying Starfighter 3000 (in need of some games for my Raspberry Pi), but no sign of it after a google search. Hope it’s back soon. By the way, has anyone managed to get the demo version working on the Raspberry Pi? |

I wonder how it affects the purchase of anything other than a soft/digital download from here Another question is do other suppliers have IDE-SD or IDE-CF adapters and cards in stock? |
Rick Murray (539) 13840 posts |
Gee… I can’t think of anybody who would have something like that. I guess you’ll have to hit eBay. Oh… Wait… IDE → CF Others exist, see here. (^_^) |

I used the words “in stock” |

All of the ones I specifically listed have prices, so I’d assume that they are… in stock. As for the compatibility, why not email CJE and confirm it’ll work on the hardware you are intending to use it with?
It is there, in a manner of speaking. I didn’t see a specific mention of the incompatibilities, though. |

Touch of obtuseness there: He who has things in stock…
Specific? “Solid State Drives from APDL.” second para, third sentence. Selection of compatible items so the user gets something known to work. Yes, CJE test things too, but this is beginning to look that the other test it before sending it supplier is gone which is sad. I don’t currently need an interface or matching card. APDL dealt with that particular request some while ago. I could have chanced things and bought from one of a number of web sites and probably been at the mercy of the postal non-delivery service. |

We have good stocks of I think ALL but one type of IDE to CF and IDE to SD. We do recommend the SD version over the CF as we’ve found it almost impossible to obtain CF cards that are compatible with the ADFS bus in most Acorns. (An IDE to CF has no active components as CF is IDE but on a different connector) |

Sadly, a posting to c.s.a.m from Paul Oates gives the following: Quote: After seeing me knock on the door, a neighbour informed me that David Didn’t get any more details other than the undertaker acting is John |

Very sorry to hear that. Dave was a long time hard working advocate for RISC OS. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. |

Very sorry to hear (and sorry to have started this thread in a clumsy way). Mike |

I’d like to echo the sentiments of others in wishing Dave’s friends/family all the best. Dave was a huge figure in the RISC OS community and managed to balance supporting both current and older RISC OS systems in tandem – quite a feet! My overriding memory of Dave goes back to when we founded RISCOS Ltd to keep OS development alive back in 1998/9. Without Dave it wouldn’t have happened – he became one of the largest shareholders, and always spoke a lot of sense. He will be very much missed, and the RISC OS scene (both current and retro) will be greatly diminished without APDL. |

This is such dreadful news. I wish Dave’s friends and families my sincere condolences. We corresponded sporadically over the years, and met him once or twice at various shows. He was always a lovely chap. He was very kind in offering to include the Birds of War manual I put together onto his Flight Sim collection CD-ROM. He sent me a free copy in the post, which considering I was half way across the world at the time, was a fabulous gesture. I never really understood how instrumental he was in helping put ROL together in those tumultuous days. And now he’s gone. Echoing Andrew’s statement, he will be sorely missed. |

This is sad news indeed. My condolences go to Dave’s family and friends. RISC OS has lost another of its biggest advocates. |

Truly dismayed to hear this news at ROUGOL last night. Dave provided excellent service and products for decades. The Wayback Machine last archived the APDL site on 31-May-2014. See this link. I do hope that the community will be able to continue Dave’s work both as a memorial to him and as a confirmation of the value of his contribution. |

My sincere condolences to Dave’s Family and to all those who knew him. I was shocked to read that he passed away. He was always there for me when I first started with Acorn Computers and RISC OS. He Will Be Greatly Missed. May His Soul Rest In Peace. |

Very sorry to hear about this. Bought my first ever RISC OS machine from him and while I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person he always provided helpful advice and will be missed. |

Echoing other posts, but never the less, David was a respected long standing advocate of RISC OS and I’m sure he will be greatly missed from the RISC OS scene. |

David is being buried at Brockley Cemetery, London, SE4 2QY on Friday 20th June at 10:30. The undertaker didn’t suggest that there was to be any restriction of mourners so if anyone wishes to join me to pay last respects, I will be glad to see them. As far as I can tell, there is no service beforehand and the site looks to be large. Therefore it is probably best to arrive in plenty of time as the grave might be difficult to locate. The nearest rail station is Crofton Park and the cemetery entrance is on the corner of Brockley Road and Ivy Road. |

I am trying to make arrangements to get there (from Cheshire) so fingers crossed. Accomodation for a 10.30 start is proving a problem though. Had hoped to stay with family nr Aylesbury, but I suspect something a bit nearer is called for. Anyone local got any suggestions/recommendations for where to stay? |

It might be worth considering the following, posted by David Bradforth on csam, which seems to be contradictory information regarding the funeral arrangements: Aaron has phoned the funeral director. |

I have spoken to Hilary (Dave’s cousin) today. She asked me to let the RISC OS community know, that the family are keen for Dave’s work to continue to be available. Initial contact has been made with various people to ensure his software, website and stock of hardware are put to good use. This is probably going to take some months, so please be patient. |
