SD Memory Cards

I currently use a SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s SD card in my Pandaboard, the difference between this card and a cheap card was amazing. Has anyone tried out the SanDisk Exteme Pro 280MB/s cards? Just wondered if it was worth the money to upgrade? http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSDXPB-016G-G46-Extreme-UHS-II-Memory/dp/B00IITQA04/ref=sr_1_6/279-8586394-6437905?ie=UTF8&qid=1405784526&sr=8-6&keywords=sandisk+extreme+pro |

They are optimised for camera applications – sequential burst read/write. Perhaps Ben could give a view? The 16Gb 280Mb/s card is £60 so it’s a bit of a leap in the dark… In principle it has potential: I get 308Mb/s on the RAM disc on my Pandaboard and 10Mb/s byte FS read/write so it depends how fast the SD card interface will go… |

It is tempting to get one! |

While the adverts talk about burst speed with huge numbers, it looks as if the sustained write speed may be around 30MB/sec (looking at the HD video specification), so faster but not necessarily as much as the advertising wants you to believe. It would also be interesting to know the internal sector size of this device. If the device is aimed at photos and video, it could use large cells (1/2Mb, 1Mb…) which may be suboptimal with lots of small files? My card is still an old Class2. I oughta plump for the formatter and whack in a class 6 or 10 of around 4-8 GB size… |

You should get around 20-22MB/sec maximum on the Pandaboard if you are using the internal SD Card slot, 10-12MB/sec if you use a USB interface/external SD Card slot. |

Is a RISC OS port to this device feasible? |
