Touchbook up for grabs

I have an Always Innovating Touchbook that I no longer want. Is there anybody here who’d like it for the cost of P&P? I’ve done the battery charging mod on it. I’m in South Devon (near Totnes), in case anyone would like to pick it up. |

I would add a “Me too”, but I think it’d be out of my price range. Congrats Wouter. ;-) Post some pics when you get it, m’kay? |

David, Conor and Rick (possibly), hold on for a day or two and I may have one and possibly two I’m prepared to part with! I’d rather they went to someone who would use/fix them rather than them just sit here unused. I’m fairly sure one is non-working, but if either of you have an interest in electronickery, I suspect there’s an easy fix. The other one, I’m fairly sure, works well if docked, but needs the battery mod doing. Will post on here when I’ve checked them out properly. |

Thank you! Please let me know, I’m no good with the “electronickery” so if it isn’t working, I’m out unfortunately. |

If someone knows, where to get a touchbook? |

Right, I’ve had a chance to check them out! And there’s good news and bad news… One of them seems to work okay as long as it’s plugged in and docked onto the keyboard. It has a RISC OS SD card but proceeds to try to boot from SCSIFS. It at least gets as far as complaining that the current 1GB USB stick (which I stripped down physically and stuck inside the Touchbook) has an old version of !Boot, without 5.20 Hook. So a bit of tweaking, and I guess that one’ll work, subject to a constant power supply and attachment to the keyboard. The battery charging mod may work, though, as it’s not been done. The other is a very different story. They keyboard bit is physically in a bad way – the casing keeps coming apart. It seems to work (the charge light comes on at least) but it’s a bit risky if you try to move it! The screen part seems to have major issues: the battery is very fat – about twice the size it used to be (so the back won’t close properly). Also, when attempting to turn it on, the screen flashes a bit, gradually turns very white and then conks out – I think it did this when the battery was normal size too. Someone with a bit of expertise may be able to replace the battery and fix the screen, but I guess it’s not for the faint hearted… As they get no use here, I am prepared to part with them both. So, make me an offer if you’re interested. However, it’s not just a financial offer – you have to impress me with how you’ll use it, and how using it will benefit RISC OS! You will need to factor in postage though. Email me if you’re interested, by 12th September. It’s the reverse of this: ten.ocset@skram-ydna |

WPBs old Touch Book has arrived. I managed to boot RISC OS and a clean installation of the Linux versions. Wifi and Bluetooth adapters are missing but fortunately I have a USB ethernet adapter (SOHOware NUB110) that can made to work under RISC OS. Some pics will follow. |

Love the irony that an Always Innovating Touchbook inside has a big sticker saying ’Don’t Touch!’ on it… |

’Don’t Touch!’ is the high-voltage power supply of the backlight. It will die if you touch it. |
