RISC Pico + Raspberry Pi = Embedded?

Hello,

Noob to RISC OS.

I could not find an answer in the Forum, so apologies if this has been answered before.

Q:
Can RISC Pico be configured to RUN a BASIC program upon Boot?
(essentially making it work like a microcontroller)

I would have thought so. Easily.

Er… Yeah… I think he was hinting at wanting a possible solution. ;-)

I don’t use Pico, but a rough guess would be something like:

• Call your program “!Boot” and put it in the filesystem root.
• Boot the Pi into Pico with your program present (it probably won’t autostart yet).
• At the command line, enter *Opt 4,2 to set a flag on the filesystem that it is to *Run the !Boot file.
• Then enter *Configure Boot to tell the system to boot itself on startup.

That should work.

If your program has a different name that you would prefer, you could always make !Boot be a simple single line program that CHAINs your program?
As a tip – drop in an INKEY for a specific keypress (I think INKEY is for ALT) and aborts if the key is pressed. This gives you an easy “don’t do this” option if you want to add/extend anything.

So you could have an !Boot that is something like:

IF INKEY(-3) THEN END
CHAIN "$.yourprog"
