New DDE25

I have tried to use the new DDE25, purchased at the show and downloaded, to replace my DDE24. I noted that the DDE24 zip was 43MB, yet the new DDE25 was only 24MB. There are many changes in the zip, but the most obvious one is that the AcornC/C++.Libraries directory is no longer included. Is this a problem? Where do libraries now reside? I moved my previous version out of the way, and am using just what is in the DDE25 zip. Is this correct? There are no obvious details of the changes, or how it should be installed. But I could have missed something! |

They are in the more RISC OS-build-like location of AcornC/C++.Export.APCS-32.Libs. This is not a problem; it’s just us getting the build environment you are presented with by the DDE to be a bit closer to what you’d experience when you move over to using the full-fat RISC OS build environment (like the Disc build or a ROM build).
That’s fine. There’s no messing about with installers any more. I did write an uninstaller script but I don’t think it quite made the cut for the final image.
The highlights are here but there are far more details in the various “Documents.DDE.ChangeLogs.*” files. There was actually a vast amount more work than even that, but much of it wasn’t user-facing. |

Thanks for the explanation, Steve. I will try to read the ChangeLogs, but I appreciate the ‘hidden’ work that has gone on. |

Apropos DDE25: How accurate is the “in the last six months” element of the free update? |

I received an email about the update, however I was out of the country at the time and the zip file has now expired. Cheers Malcolm |

Much like Malcolm, I meant to download the file, forgot about it and when I tried yesterday the link is expired. Cheers Conor |

Please send these requests to ctools:ctools@riscosopen.org – I don’t deal with this stuff directly. |

We fudged it outwards by a couple of weeks to catch a few people who really were on the cusp. If you’ve not received an email, then either you didn’t qualify or you’ve changed your email address. Either way, shoot an email to the “ctools” address with your developer number to find out. |

Done. Included the notification e-mail to tag the date for whoever reads the mail. |

Wow! That is a significant amount of work. |

You’re welcome – we worked hard on making this release of the DDE a more coherent whole, with a focus on changes that matter to the developer (examples, documentation, bug fixing). There’s always a lot more to do, but I think we’ll be focusing on other areas before taking a look at what we can do for DDE 26… :) |
