Accessing Cloud services with RISC OS?

Like many others, I regularly use a Cloud service (Dropbox, in this case) to share files and store data. I’d like to extend this policy, possibly to all my data, but the major problem with Dropbox is that RISC OS (via NetSurf) cannot access it. I can mount the PC’s Dropbox drive in LanMan and transfer files to and from it, but that requires a networked PC to make the connection. Has anyone had any success with Google Drive or MS’s cloud (can’t remember what it’s called, they keep changing the name which is not confidence-inspiring)? (The problem with Google Drive, IME, is you cannot have folders unless you use Chrome; this is not an issue with Dropbox, and I don’t regard a flat-file storage system as satisfactory, personally). |

Malcolm Hussain-Gambles works on a lib to ease access to web resources. I hope he’ll share his work. With a simple way to use web services, many problems could be solved. Something like Weboob would be very useful : http://weboob.org/modules (Perhaps as a BBC Basic library) |

Unfortunate choice of acronym? “we boob”!
Or as a C module? Then it isn’t tied to any specific language… |

Further testing reveals that MS’s OneDrive/SkyDrive (it’s called the former, but the PC short cut’s properties reveal it to be the latter – pretty symptomatic of MS’s schizophrenic approach to the Cloud, I should say) cannot be shared via LanMan98, nor can it be accessed in RO via NetSurf, nor can an emailed document ‘share’ be accessed by NetSurf. So, back to Dropbox, for me at least… Weboob: haven’t looked into this, but will do. IMHO inability to access the Cloud directly will become an increasingly big issue for RISC OS. |

In a similar way you can work around this problem with a NAS. Mine’s always on which makes things rather easy. Without my standalone Synology NAS I could even plug a usb drive into the AVM router, run a very slim Dropbox app on that and share everything via LanMan98 with my Beagleboard. |

Don’t think of getting access to the cloud. It’s better to have a support of web services. Then, thousand of new applications will be available for RISC OS :)
In fact it’s just http access. I was thinking of something more simple ‘a la Weboob’. |
