Exactly. I recently spent quite a while trying to help a Mac-owning friend reconnect his Time Machine backup drive to his iMac. For some reason they had stopped communicating. Is the Time Machine still visible on the LAN? I wondered. Five minutes of fruitless searching later, we had failed to discover the TM’s IP address. Basically, Apple don’t want users delving too deeply into the workings of their machines: as long as everything is working as it is supposed to, fine. And to be fair, nearly all of the time it does, and it’s wonderful. But if it stops, God help you*. |
