FontEd

Is there any reason why FontEd could not be included in the disc build? I think it is in cvs here although it does seem intertwined with FontManager in some way. I have v0.34 (29 Nov 2001) on disc, in Utilities, although I confess I am not quite sure where it came from! It does seem to work on RO5.20. Another user has asked me for a copy, but although it is Copyright Acorn, if it is in CVS can anyone confirm I can safely send him a copy? |

Why not just point him to the binary copy in CVS and avoid the question? In general though, it’d be covered by the Castle licence, so for private use it’s fine (don’t forget to include a copy of the licence!).
The HardDisc4 is trying to have universal appeal, FontEd’s a pretty niche interest, I’m not sure filling the base disc image with shovelware that’s unmaintained/untested helps overall. I do think there’s a case to put together some kind of developer nightly build (in the same way there’s a 26 bit !System nightly build) in which I’d put MakeModes, ResEd, FontEd, WinEdit, DebugTools, spare territories, that sort of rough-round-the-edges stuff with a big red warning sticker that it might explode. |

Where does one download the latest FontEd? I couldn’t see the binary in CVS that Sprow mentioned. HardDisc4 was the obvious place to look as it was originally bundled with the Archimedes, but that doesn’t contain it either. |

FontED 0.36 (24-Sep-16) is in the Bonus binaries download. https://www.riscosopen.org/viewer/view/castle/RiscOS/Sources/Apps/FontEd/ |

Thanks David, I didn’t even know such a thing existed. Its such a tiny download, you have to wonder why it’s not part of HardDisc4 to start with. |

I think it’s a collection of odd n’ sods that may or may not have seen recent development or receive the usual tender care. |
