My case design for the IGEPv2 board

Hi All, when I saw that David Thomas had made a case in LEGO, I decided to do the same ting myself,but with some more fuctions like built in USB ports etc…. I give you the nutBOX: Behind the little doors are the USB-ports, sadly not selfpowered yet. Top view. There is a grid like this on the bottom aswell. I stole the idea from the Apple G4 CUBE computer. Which was completely cooled by the airstream that went through the system.It had no fan. This does not seem to work for the IGEP. I’ll be needing to add a fan. The computer opens up easily so I can replace the rom without hassle. The board is stuck in a frame made out of LEGO Technic,so I don’t have to touch the board itself no more. It can also be taken out of the case without trouble The case without board inside. h1.changes I still have to make: 1)A doorway so I can unplug the usb more easily. 2)Add a fan. Is it possilbe to attach a fan to the USB OTG port? |

USB OTG the go is a tricky beast, and I don’t know the exact setup on the IGEP, but you can only draw power when the other end is in host most. It is possible to abuse this with 3 way cables, etc, but this is at odds with the USB spec. I think you are better simply getting voltage from jumpers on the board, if there are any. Also, a quick test shows that full-size USB socket fits nicely into a 1×2 brick gap (and 1×2 tile at the base), but I don’t know how relevant that is here. Other case possibilities are a PowerMac style unfolding case. |

Thank you guys for the nice comments! Peter:I meant that I had to find an easier way to unplug the USB-hub from the mainboard. Which I have found! First up new parts: A revoltec 60mm cooling fan fits nicely on an 8wide lego plate (exactly the size of my grid) and has 5volt-12volt usage (good for drawing power from an USB port. As you can see I modified it with an USB cable. A Sweex selfpowered USB hub. I needed the smallest selfpowered hub I could find out there and it had to have USB ports in different directions (in this case 2 on top and five to the front). The two on top will be internal (one for powering the cooling fan and the other for the bootable pendrive) Here you see the inside, it is a pretty thight squeeze. I’ve changed the front so I can unplug the power- and usbcords more easily. In all it’s glory running !Revolver. I love revolver: |
