hi - 486-DX4@100Mhz PC card i have installed MSDOS v6.22, TurboPascal v7, TurboC v3: the Borland IDE is working with a lot of troubles: trouble#1 changing the video mode from Windows to Full Screen sometimes causes RiscOS to completely stop to understand the keyboard, and i have to reboot workaround for trouble #2: I have installed Windows 3.1, if i launch TurboPascal and TurboC within “Dos Prompt”, everything is fine. Still having trouble #1, btw this page was talking about v306 and v307, never tried, I am using v308 p.s. |

Is that version of TurboPascal publicly available? I used to use TurboPascal version 5.something, TurboC version 7 (IIRC) and TurboC++ version 1 on a PC card with DOS 6.22. |

I have bought TruboPascal v7 and Turbo Vision, plus Turbo C, in 2001. |

which version of !PC are you using ? v306 ? v307 ? v308 ? I have removed msdos v6.22, and installed msdos v5: trouble#2 is solved! Now Turbo Pascal v7 is working fine. Also I wanted to install drdos v6. Turbo Pascal has no troubles, so I can’t understand why TurboPascal and Turbo C have troubles with msdos v6.22. p.s. |

have you tested the serial and the parallel port ? do they work ? |

It seems the problem with MSDOS 6.22 is related to the autoexec.bat file, more specifically removing everything is about the keyboard solves the problem. I have reinstalled MSDOS 6.22, i have removed the the keyboard driver, and now everything works fine. |

It’s years (probably in the last century) since I did anything with the DOS 6.x memory management but I think the issue is the memory extenders and the fact that the 6.22 versions were microsoft built rather than stolen from DRDOS1 the DRDOS1 ones being properly written. 1 Could have been another firm but definitely plagiarised. MS did a rewrite when the court case revealed the only difference in the MS version being the copyright string. |

You know MS-DOS 6.22’s source is on the web? Just sayin… (the most painful part of taking ANSI.SYS apart was the fact it was x86 code which is inherently horrible; I would be interesting seeing how DOS brings itself up from boot, but there’s always that x86 trauma right here in the way…) |

where can I see MS-DOS v6.22’s sources ? Had I better install freeDOS or DRDOS instead of MSDOS ? Within the !PC/PRO, with a DOS machine, I have tested the serial line using Procomm, and it works good! I have to install an other DOS program that needs to use the serial port of the RiscPC. It’s a debug program for a remote board that has a “talker” in its ROM. The PC and the remote board need to talk through the serial line. I will test the final equipment sooner. |

My bad. It is 6.0, not 6.22. As for where, that’s what Google is for… |

It’s actually an unfinished build of 6.0 (I believe that it was released to some OEMs as a beta). |

DOS 6.0 was the subject of the most famous and successful legal action – 19931, Stacker (Stac Electronics) and Doublespace (Microsoft – at least thats what the copyright string said) An “upgrade” was issued by MS, which interestingly also change other bits of the install. Maybe someone saw the fire lighting under their posterior for other items? 1 Yes, I go back even further than that. |
