Last ARM2/3 OS goes end of line

Looks like NetBSD/acorn26 is on death row This means the end of support of, I think, the last surviving OS for ARM2 and ARM3 machines. In the unlikely event that anyone is interested, feel free to talk to the NetBSD folks. |

NetBSD/acorn32 would presumably be OK and (theoretically) run on all the hardware versions these forums are concerned with. It does raise the thought that perhaps the community here ought to define a process for putting old hardware out to pasture in support terms. Much as it’s fun to update a cherished RPC to the latest OS release I do wonder how much work on new OS features is constrained by the limitations of the old hardware. That said, John A’s hypervisor1 would mean we could all pull the old motherboard out of the RPC and replace it with an iMX6 board2 yet still run those old apps. 1 I’m sure he’s busy as he’s gone awfully quiet round here. 2 Contemplating a bits purchase from R-Comp. It’s not about cheap, I have a particular project in mind. |

Steve: You may be interested to know that we are expecting to do an uncased IGEPv5 with RISC OS! I need to work out the price. |
