Which monitor

In the old days there was little choice of RISC OS compatible monitors. Now, with the Raspberry Pi et al, the choice is huge. Is there a forum that reviews monitors for reliability? I bought an LG LED monitor, a Flatron IPS235, for about 90ukp three years ago. Its picture, at 1920×1080 and 16M colours, has good quality and is rock steady. No complaints there at all. It has three input sockets: HDMI, D-SUB and DVI-D. To begin with I used the HDMI socket. After a year of use the picture would sometimes suddenly disappear: evidently a loose connection, because shaking my fist at it would sometimes bring the picture back. A few months ago I moved over to using the D-SUB socket instead of the HDMI socket, with an HDMI to VGA convertor in the connection. The loose connection problems seemed to have gone away. But now the problem has come back. Did I simply get a poorly assembled unit? Should I buy another unit (it must be out of guarantee by now) or try another make? |

Do you plug and unplug things a lot? Isn’t the monitor end just hooked up and left alone? The question I would ask is – is it the connection at all, or is the backlight cutting out? Maybe the monitor is overheating? I have a desk fan near to mine in this weather. Keeps me and it cool. |

Just as I was reading this the monitor cut out. I could feel that the HDMI-VGA adapter was quite hot, so I blew on it. The picture came back. Chance? Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. Somewhere I have a little fan. |

I think that decade (or two) ago stuff was made at much better quality. |
