EtherUSB and LanManFS

I note that my all my EtherUSB and LanManFS changes have now been added to the ROOL sources. Would anyone like to check that networking is working ok on your device. A comparison of the speed between the old rom and the new rom would be nice – particularly a test of omap 4 which had the biggest problems before I started this. LanMan should now be able to log on to a passworded windows account. If you are using ShareFS an found you needed ‘sharefswindow 1’ on one or more of your devices to get it to work you may find you don’t need it any more – which will speed up data transfer. Increasing the sharefswindow past the default 2 can speed sharefs up further. |

That would be good news indeed! Does it only apply on machines with the latest USB, or does it apply only if all networked machines have the latest USB, or some other combination? |

If I remember correctly ‘sharefswindow 1’ was needed on the machines that were ok to get a machine that wasn’t ok to work if you see what I mean. So previously you may have a network that works ok without ‘sharefswindow 1’ on any machine and introduce a new machine which requires you to put ‘sharefswindow 1’ on all of the other machines to get it to work. So if you put the new ROM on the machine that caused problems you won’t need ‘sharefswindow 1’ on any machine. Don’t know if that makes any sense. |

As much sense as any other ramblings on ShareFSwindow! Seems like some experimentation is in order. |

Going back to 2005 and a recently arrived Iyonix, I found it necessary to set ShareFSWindow to 1 on the Kinetic300 RiscPC. See Archive Magazine Vol18 Iss9, “Hints and Tips”. On the face of it it seemed the wrong way around, the theory at the time was that the super fast Iyonix was “flooding” the RiscPC. Anyway pragmatism rules, OK. Subsequently the A9home also needed a ShareFSWindow of 1. Now, the default ShareFSWindow setting of 2 is entirely satisfactory all round on the Raspberry Pi and various VRPCs. |

I take it from the lack of response that either no-one is having problems with these changes or no one is using them. Whilst I’d like to think no-one is having problems, it would be nice to know if everything is ok on the various machines whilst I can still remember the innards of EtherUSB. |

I am still experiencing slow ‘read whole file from NAS/LANMan98’ times on ARMX6 but that uses EtherTH. EtherUSB seems fine now. |
