Printing from BeagleBoard

Has anyone managed to get printing to work on the BeagleBoard?

I’ve just tried printing from !Draw via Gutenprint. Something crashes horribly, whether alignment exceptions are on or off.

Tiny spot of good news, though: I generated a Printout file on the Iyonix and copied it to the BeagleBoard. With !Printers/Gutenprint set to print to file “JetDirectFS:iyonix” and with my !JDServer on the Iyonix, dropping the Printout onto the !Printers icon, the printout came out fine. This just means the lower levels of the transport are OK. JetDirectFS works with alignment exceptions on or off. I’ve added it JetDirectFS to the software compatibility list. (After far too many bad edits…)

Maybe one day I’ll try it the other way round and put !JDServer on the BeagleBoard. That ought to work.

I can print to a network printer using lprDriver 2.00 beta 1 (29 Nov 2002) © Peter Bell as distributed by R-Comp. I have also just tried !PrintPDF and it almost works, it just errors at the last point (it even pops up the “PDF Conversion Complete” box).

A quick check shows the error is from GhostScript.it does quite a few LDR xxx{xxx,#2], so a recompile is needed… The source is availible from here: http://www.mw-software.com/software/ghostscript/ghostscript.html but needs to be crosscompiled.

I’m considering buying a printer for my BeagleBoard: Does anyone know what printers are supported, if there are just a few of them, and what it takes to make them work?

The reason I ask is that printers are conspicuously absent from the hardware compatibility list...

And how about scanners? I guess there may not be any API for this in RISC OS, yet?

Best is to ask Martin Wuerthner whether his current Gutenprint offering supports the full RISC OS list on the BeagleBoard. I suspect it does.

I’ve successfully used Ian Hamilton’s MFPxEpson app with my Epson RX620 on the BeagleBoard, just as an experiment. It seemed to work fine. (I very rarely print or scan anything, so I don’t have a bunch of everyday experience.)

I’ve now mailed Martin Wuerthner regarding Gutenprint on the BeagleBoard, and will post the reply here, as well as adding it to the software compatibility list, if it turns out to work for the BeagleBoard now.
