Reading Sprite file in Windows 8

Hello,

I have Acorn Risc PC600 with RISC OS 3.50.
Using “Paint” I made a screenshot and saved as a sprite image.
I send this file to floppy disc, and I wanted to see this image on a computer running Windows 8. But Windows 8 can`t open sprite image on diskette.
Whether there is a program for Windows 8, that allows you to open acorn sprites files?

There is DPScan, but it appears to be only available as a part of OvationPro.

It is something I’m planning on writing, purely just an exercise. How soon do you need it?

It’s listed as a supported format in xnview if renamed with a ‘.acorn’ extension

There is also Snapper which allows you to save the screenshot as jpeg or png which are easier to transfer to Windows. It’s also a lot more flexible in what to capture than Paint.

It is relatively easy to translate a sprite to a TIFF (which Windows can read) as you can add all the header stuff at the end of the file. BBC BASIC for Windows has a very good library of routines. It does need a bit of knowledge of the TIFF format….
