SASAUG meeting

This evening (10/5/10) Surrey and Sussex Acorn User Group are going to have a go at booting my BB with RISC OS. I still need to format my 4GB USB memory stick with ADFS using !SCSIform. I have never formatted anything let alone a memory stick, so what settings should I use? I can access the stick using Fat32Fs. Can it be formatted on a M$ laptop running RISC OS under emulation? |

Choose ‘A’ (no more changes) when it asks you about adding entries to the defect list. Otherwise, the default settings should work just fine.
I doubt it – but why would you want to do that if you’ve already got everything you need to format it? (A RISC OS 5 machine, a spare USB port, and a copy of SCSIForm!) |

That is the problem, no one might bring a real RISC OS computer. I just have to hope someone will have formatted a USB memory stick before coming to the meeting. I have been away from home all day and I am now travelling direct to the meeting. |

If someone there has a <=2GB FAT-formatted stick (and you have internet access there to read this message!) then you should be able to use the self-extracting copy of the disc image. I.e. put the archive on the 2GB stick, extract the it to a RAM disc, run SCSIForm to format your 4GB stick, then copy everything over. Although you’d also have to turn off alignment exceptions to get around the RAM disc bug :( |

We (SASAUG) are getting to an orange screen on a 1280×720 at 58Hz Hannspree 28” size screen. We have no lights on either the mouse or keyboard. We are not using an ADFS formatted USB memory stick because we don’t have an ADFS formatted one. We did get 4 green lights come on from power up. |

Sounds like u-boot is failing to load the ROM image. Are you able to connect a serial cable and check what u-boot is doing? Have you double-checked that the SD card is set up correctly? |

We now have the RISC OS 5 desktop! Yippee. Great cheers went up from a large crowd of enthusiasts. A lady fainted in the audience! Our mistake, previously, was that we had not renamed the ROM from OMAP3DEV to riscos – this instruction was buried at the bottom of a readme file in the zip file that contains the u-boot scripts. |

Congratulations!
Are you sure she wasn’t just falling asleep? :-) |
